Question Protege 5 dyno in Magazine

Okay...I have been away for a while...but now I have returned...yay.

My question is this...Did anyone else read the latest Turbo magazine article where they dyno a P5 w/HKS muffler and super power crap filter??? According to their dyno results, the P5 put down pretty damn near 130HP to the wheels...I have been away...so please forgive me if this has all been mentioned before...but does anyone else know what the heck is up with that?

yeah i actually started a thread about this last week. anyways i called AREA 51 the place they dyno'd it at and spoke with david and he said that it was to the wheel hp. i also talked to ryan from hks usa and he also said that he diddnt know about the test but he did give me some info on the exaust. i cant find the paper i wrote it on but the exaust pipe was less than 2.25" i believe he told me 53mm. i thought that this was a little strange oh well though. ill try to find the paper that has the info i wrote down from these companies. ohh has anyone picked up the new sport compact car. ROGER FOO has a little article about how he has the p5 now. check it out.

The extra power that the HKS exhaust is not that significant but it is still an increase none the less. What I would like to know if that base horse power reading on the dyno is real. It was 123.9 or something. If that is true then we have pretty kick *** engines, but everything else on this forum seems to suggest otherwise. I want to believe this dyno reading, but who knows.

i wouldnt say we have kick *** engines due to the fact that it only produces 130hp (factory rating) i i would say if this 123.9 is true than we have a bad *** transmission. les than 5% power loss through the drivtrain is awsome! the older tiburon's have about a 7% drivetrain power loss and that is very good also. one of the guys i work with had his car dyno'd and he threw done like 124whp and they are rated at 140 from the factory.

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone on this board post their own dyno results that put our P5's between 100 and 110whp? It was some thread that had to do with adding an intake I believe...

Everyone that's had their cars dynoed (on a Dynojet) has gotten between 97 and 102 HP to the wheels with the stock 2.0L. I don't know if the Clayton is some kind of magic dyno, but if you have a stock 130 HP engine putting down 123.9 to the wheels, then that would be incredible. The Ford Probe with the same 2.0L we have puts down almost exactly the same numbers. I've talked to some Probe guys and I've seen dynoes on the Probe sites. 98-102 stock on a Dynojet dyno is what MANY people have gotten. Mine put down 104.5 with the J-spec cams, but jumped up to 112.8 when we uncorked the airbox and the exhaust. The J-spec cams just don't seem to work well with the stock exhaust and intake.

I'll be dynoing the car again later this week probably. Have to check out what affect the header makes.

I have a hard time trying to believe that the p5 gets 123.9 whp with only an exhaust....its almost impossible!

i contacted the place where they got it dyno'd at (area 51) i talked to a guy (David) that worked there and he said that it put down 123.9 as a basline run to the wheels.

Their dyno is on crack. That or the Clayton dynos predict what power at the motor is by allowing for loss and that's what they give as a readout.
