quick intake mod

I was inspecting the engine bay of my pro5 today just to become more familiar with the car. While inspecting i realized that by removing two bolts and getting rid of that front intake piece the intake would have much less restriction. I have read about the swiss cheese approach to home intake modding, but has anyone just removed that piece?? I did and was very impressed. Improvement in both sound and performance with a 30sec mod, i am happy.

you've had practice? lol.. apparently you've never owned a 1.6 with an injen CAI. we've got you beat.. and i've probably got everyone beat with this thing. having gone through three maf's in about two months, and having to swap intakes. then turning it into a shorty, pulling it, selling it, buying a new one, and putting it back in, modding it for nitrous. i've pulled my intake a good billion friggin times. i can do it in about 10-15 minutes, and that includes removing the strut tower bar to get it out

nope.. it's there for a reason. i don't plan on moving/removing it. i have no hesitation or jerking... my car runs like a champ. clean the MAF, try doing the seal (search for my ghetto methods of using a bike tire for a seal) and clean the damn filter. ;D nothing wrong with mine. and alas.. i'm about to pull the intake again. stupid winter nitrous kit, intake and wheels are all coming off the car for when the white stuff drops.

i removed the resonator assembly and it caused a hesitation at 4-5k rpm...i have since installed a ractive intake and it cured the problem

LOL! maybe that's your problem. quit resetting the ECU so much. I reset it once.. the computer needs to learn.. and eventually it will learn to love more air. let the ecu work the bugs out of itself. when i first put my new injen on, it hesitated for about two weeks even with all the ghetto methods.. but after about two weeks of driving, the hesitation went away.
