Quick questions on Short Shifter & Flywheel
Well I am currently deciding between short shifters and also starting to research lightened flywheels even thogh the flywheel is one of my last planned mods.
I know the stock flywheel is at 17lbs, I have seen to competition wheels at 15lbs and 9lbs which runs about 170 and 340 respectively. I also saw a mazdaspeed flywheel which is supposed to be lighter than stock but it didnt say by how much, for around 180. Does anyone know the actuall weight of the MS flywheel? And does anyone know of flywheels to stay away from because of durability issues?
As for the SS, I have been looking at the B&M, TWM and Pacesetter ones. The pacesetter SS looks nice because it is adjustable 1 piece so you can change the throw reduction from 30% all the way to 80%. The TWM and B&M both claim around 40% i think. I have heard everyone talk about the B&M but it is the most expensive at 142, the pace setter is at 95 and the TWM at 120. For the price which would be the best for an 03 mp5? (I am not too concerned with adjustability of the Pacesetter but the price is nice also.)
So opinions? Preferably from those who have used or witnessed these applications.

The MP3 flywheel is 2lbs lighter than the stock 2.0L's, but I am not sure if the MSP's is the same...Check www.rr-racing.com for Fidanza flywheels (which are the 9lb aluminum wheels I think)...They had the best prices I had seen, but I didn't search much. You may notice a lumpier idle with the aluminum wheel but some complain about it more than others, other than that there isn't a whole lot of problems I have heard about. Durability shouldn't be a problem with any of the wheels...Fidanza has been around for a while with a good bit of positive feedback, and they also sell replacement friction pads to change when needed, so you don't have to buy a whole new flywheel when it wears out...

Go w/ the B&M. It's a reduced throw, but not as short as the kartboy or TWM. It's got a nice feel to it and it's pretty smooth. I am currently running the ss w/ the stock bushings and I kinda like that feel more than the kartboy ss w/ the kartboy bushings. I guess it's personal preference and my opninion is kind of biased.

9lbs flywheels may negatively affect idle, will redline so fast you could fly past the rev limiter if doing other performance mods like on nitrous wet shots.
You will feel the engine more responsive on acceleration, but also if you are accelerating and the you take your foot of the gas pedal like on normal driving, the feedback will be more like harsh...
sorry for my english!

np completely understood yah, and I appreciate all the feedback guys. The flywheel is one of the last engine mods I am going to do but as it can be one of the most expensive I wanted to start researching it now.
If the lurch when taking your foot off the gas is pretty harsh with the 9lb is it not so bad with the 15lb? And I notice alot of 15lb flywheels out there, does the 2lb difference actually make a noticible difference in the car? Or would the 9lb be needed to notice a difference?
And so B&M over TWm but does anyone know about the pacesetter one? I like the adjustability factor but havent heard anyone mention using this one yet.

It is tricky to decide on whether the jolt will be to harsh for you or not. Some hate it and wish they never invested in it, and some don't mind it as much. the 15lbs wheels are most likely just a stock flywheel machined until close to the end of its service limit, so if it ever gets glazed or burned and needs cut, you won't have much to work with...But you will still notice the 15lb wheel's throttle response and pull in first gear, after that it will probably just feel normal...
