There is also resonance tunning that needs to be done with lengths of pipes. You know this board is just full of smart asses reminds me of why i dont post here

I agree with the intake plenum lengths affecting velocity, but you never answered my question.
The velocity is affected Behind the TB, from engine vacuum, in the case of the intake manifold, and runner lenght is tuned with valve timing for good low and mid range from the factory.
Cold Air IS important, and can make more horsepower with it. I agree, in a small HP engine like the 4 banger mazda, gains will be minimal to non noticeable, but on a engine that makes real power, you can FEEL the difference with a CAI.

Okay, i have searched for the past hour and haven't found a thing. I'm just curious if the intake is loud when traveling over 70 mph. I travel a lot and i don't think i would want to hear that growl constantly when driving at high speed. Any feedback on this would be helpful.

It only growls under hard acceleration. Once you are cruising you don't hear over the rest of the engine/road noise.

intakes
i can't beleive all the peolpe out there who can't understand why things cost what they do, if you buy for price only you will get burned with a pile of **** products. injen costs what it does because of engineering design and quality just like anything else high end. if you read racing beats studies on intakes when building the mp3 they found a short intake had no positive and maybe some negative power effects. that is why i am surprised aem makes one they are usually quality minded. if you're going to bolt on stuff like a ractive intake you will disapointed, if you are so concerned with spending money on a quality vehicle you should just buy a kia or something.
a quality car deserves quality parts if you ask me. (not that anyone did )

I beleive i stated i wasnt interested in performance gains, and was only looking to clean up the engine compartment with an intake. In this case, and my mechanical ability to fabricate a bracket if I had to, the ractive could be a good choice for me.

Here's the straight poop. Go for the Ractive BUT, keep the factory tube up to the sensor in place (this will eliminate the problem of the brake master cylinder rub). I was getting the rub big time because I abuse the **** out of my car (keep it floored & shift at 500rpm past redline). Now for the noise factor...the sound is addictive! It sounds like those monkeys under the hood are in heat!! You won't regret it. BTW, I got mine at www.streatbeatcustoms.com

I think Ill pass. I dont need the sound of monkeys in heat, and I dont need to spend money on something so poorly engineered that i cant even use pieces of it......lol.
Enjoy yours while your engine is still in one piece...what a joke...

Don't worry about the engine, that's under warranty...clutch replacement will be on my dime. The only way to enjoy these cars is to REALLLY rev them out. I drove my 5.0 mustang like this and NEVER had any engine problems in the 88,000 miles I had it. Now tires, clutches, transmissions were another story. Transmissions Ford paid for, I had to for the rest. Trust me, the Japanese build a fine *** motor. Spend the money, you will love the sound. It can take it.

thats ok. I dont have the "need" to beat the **** out my car like you do. Call it maturity if you want..
later.

Maturity? Maturity is being man enough realize life is something to be enjoyed not afraid of! Live it up! I've been on this earth 41 years now. I go to bed with a smile almost every night. Dude, it's just a car. It can and will be replaced. You bought it to enjoy it. Not baby it. Didn't you?? Don't give me the cop out about money either...car payments are a fact of life.
