Restricted intake fix
#31
Roddimus, you are correct and I have done a very similar mod, excpet I cut off the lower front portion and fender side of my air box to expose it to MUCH more air. The only draw back I have found to it, is something that ALL intake's of one form or another suffer from, heat soak. When the car is sitting in traffic, in Grid, etc. I have alleviated this (a little bit) by creating a heat shield to sheild the air box from the motor/header/underhood heat and thus letting the cooler air from the fender opening( fed via the removed grill in the bumper, I have an LX, no fogs) feed the filter. Now after removing all the snorkus silencer crap I did notice a drop in low end torque, but the gains in mid range and top end are very well worth it. On the auto-x course the car has fabuous throttle response and still decent torque an HP (I came from a 200hp Jetta VR6 so everything is still "decent" until I get used to it)

please save yourself from embaresment and buy yourself a 35 dollar intake off ebay, they are cheap and they WORK, plus if you want you can get a K&N Filter instead of the generic one that comes with it
