Well you have a choice of 3 different ones.
B&M. $160 ( I think )
Pacesetter Adjustable. Approx $120
Kartboy and Poly Bushings. $ 106 shipped to my door.
I've installed a Pacesetter Adj and it was nice. We put it on the shortest setting. A little stiff at first but nice. Some cutting to the catalytic conv heat shield. Probably b/c it was on the shortest setting and it is really made for the 1st gen Protege.
I just put on my Kartboy shorty and poly bushings. It shortens the shifter by 2in. Nice throw. Very crisp shifting due to bushings.
I'm in love with it!!!!!!
As for the B&M...I heard they are built very well. I would expect that from B&M. Bit pricey but ppl like it. Doesn't come with bushings.

MikeD, thanks for the thouroughass response!
Sounds like Kartboy is the way to go for me since i'm gonna be pretty low on money after getting the new car :P
PhotoPro5, i would probably be getting an SS for the shorter throw, cuz the p5 shifter feels like rowing a boat after driving my celica :P
Thanks guys!

yeah you were a tad high on the B&M....they are right at $145.
and they are made very well....I love mine....they come with their own bushings for the shifter itself, the piviot point....its a complete housing...where as on the Kartboy you have to remove the stock ones and reuse them.
the B&M's shaft is a single piece...machined from a solid shaft...where as the others are not.
To me...it was more than worth the few extra dollars.

Sir Nuke, does that make the B&M a easier and quicker install than the Kartboy?

To install the SS, can you just do it from inside the car or do you have to get up underneath the car? Is any crazy crap like drilling or cutting involved or is it just screwing and taking the shifter apart and stuf?

Sir Nuke
Yeah I was probably a little high on the price. That was just the figure that was thrown at me when I was looking around. Believe me it sounded a little high when I was told that. My eyes almost popped outta my head.
They are all good in their own way. Whether it be price or bushings or build quality. Im sure none of them are bad or will break. As for me I love mine. Feels like Im driving a totally new car

of course if you have installed a total cat back and removed the heat shield its a moot point.
and for Apexer.....they all take about the same amount of time to install....as hawkeye said.

Hawk is 100% correct. the P-5 **** fits.....the Miata shift **** fits...the MP3 **** does NOT fit...
the thread pitch for the B&M and the stock shifter is 10mm X 1.25 so if you want to get a shifter with a threaded insert in it...that is the size you need.
