It should apply to any Protege model, they all have the same shifter.

Sorry, I didn't take a before picture. I do have a picture of the B&M shifter and MazdaSpeed shift **** installed though. It's on the ProtegeTech egroup site under Photos, Eric F's '00 silver ES. It feels great to me. The stock shifter was way to tall with long throws. It felt like an old pick up shifter to me, although more precise. The new shifter and **** give a much sportier feel to me. No clearance problems whatsoever.

Eric, you really like the cf mazdaspeed shifter ****? I've been looking for a good shift **** that had a good feel to it and that was the one I really liked. In a few months, after I get that I'll probably couple it with the B&M short shifter.

Yeah, I like it. It's small, so I can hold my stereo remote and the shift **** at the same time.

I did the short shifter mod per the .doc file that someone else recommended and it feels awesome. I removed the extension with a propane torch (took about 30 seconds). I used a lathe and made the extension fit into shifter and was able to use the stock ****. I will have some pics tomorrow. There is no problem with shifts into 2nd or 4th either. The shifter looks better now....used to look like a shifter in a truck, now it looks like a sports car shifter.

Does that mean that any generation short shift kit would fit a 1st gen?

Question Pipe extension question

Macklum,

Where did you obtain the pipe for your shifter extension?
Natural gas (black) pipe has an I.D of about 31/64 inches...
I'm not sure if that's big enough...

thanx,
