simple little question about drop in's

hey whats up everyone, im putting a drop in K&N filter in my p5. When putting it in, do i need an extra little rubber extension? i read some other threads and saw some pics. It seems like what some people are doing is putting a little peice of rubber or metal piping between the stock rubber hose and the K&N attatched with 2 hose clamps. Where do you buy a little peice of rubber like that or whatever? and correct me if ime wrong, but the diameter is 3.0 in. right? or 3.5? i dunno. Anyways can i just remove the stock air ram and just attatch the K&N?

I know this is really simple and probably a stupid couple of questions. but, any and all help is much appreciated. thanks

-its all about posting random faces just for the hell of it. i like this one

you dont' NEED anything extra....that is why they call it a drop in....you take the stock paper filter out...and you DROP IN the K&N.

i think he was referring to a cone filter. you can get that rubber tube thing at a homedepot or lowes store.

IIRC, there have been a few threads in this forum that talk about this. I believe that 3 inch diameter is correct, but do a search just to make 100% sure.

The 3" will not fit. 2 1/2" will go right on the MAF. The actual diameter is metric and very slightly larger than 2 1/2", but a 2 1/2" boot will strectch slightly and go right on. The 3" can't be compressed enough to fit tightly. I pulled my airbox off my MAF and measured it to try doing the same thing you are. As of right now, I have a MAF adapter and 3" cone filter on the way as well as a short ram to see which works best. Hey, the MAF adapter and cone filter with it were only $25 on Ebay.
