Stupid Mazda Clutch

Hey, I know this has been posted a million times but...I have a 02 Protege, and I am starting to have clutch problems. At higher rpms it will grind into 2nd 3rd and sometimes 4th depending on how fast i am shifting. Anyone help? I'm worried about the dealership sayin that its cuz i abuse my car by racing, ya know the same ol excuse..

Could be a number of things...not just your clutch...binds in the hydraulics could cause an improper disengagement/engagement which would result in gear grinds sometimes...Also how many miles are on the gear oil, some people have switched to Redline MT-90 and cured all gear grinding problems they experienced.

My guess is also hydraulics. It's very weird for a tranny to grind going into 4th. A couple of questions...

1) Is it unusually difficult to shift from neutral to 1st?
2) Does the tranny exhibit any other unusual behavior? (Popping out of gear, etc.)
3) Have you ever modified anything tranny-related or changed the gear oil?

There is a tsb for clutch shatter..... but it sounds like you have some gearing issues. Do you have a short shifter and bushings?

Sometimes it is difficult to shift from neutral to 1st, i gotta try a few times. It has popped out of gear before, not many times but it has. I have not modified anything transmission related, and i have almost 50k miles, and i have changed whatever the dealership has for me. I have no short shifter or bushings.

You know i have an idea what it might be... as we speak my car is at the dealer getting fixed, i had similar symptoms... grinding from 2nd to 3rd occasionally and grinding from 1st to 2nd nearly all the time. until eventually somthing broke and if felt like i had no clutch, turns out that the "dog" in the transmission kinda died. Last november my car was in the shop because the shfting fork broke and was lodged in place so i couldn't disingage third gear. so they said that when the shifting fork broke it weekend the dog, when the dog broke if felt like the clutch was gone, which was not the case. you may have a similar problem to this or your clutch really is messing up. either way i'd go and have it looked at anyway or you may be sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck like me...
