Although I haven't had the problem, I recall reading that the purge solenoid needs to have a similar orientation as when it was removed from the stock intake. Others have had problems with mounting the purge solenoid upside down and then it wasn't operating properly.

Vac lines and cleaning the MAF would still be my best guess though.
