Question Are there any Air Intake alternatives for a 1.6L?

I own a 2000 pro' LX 1.6L and the only intake i've seen for my car is a $300 Injen. I was wondering if any of you know of any other intakes or cold air intakes that would fit a 1.6L. Would an AEM short ram intake for a 2000 1.8L pro' fit? NEED HELP!

Exclamation PLEASE HELP ME with my custom intake!!!

I own a 2000 1.6L LX and have been looking around for a good short ram intake for my pro'. The problem is, no one makes a short ram intake for a 1.6L. So today I said F**K IT, i'm going to make a custom short ram that will be a hell of alot cheaper than an AEM one. The problem is that I don't know what all I need. All I know is that I need a filter, piping, clamps, and flanges. So here are my questions:

1. What inside diameter pipe do I need for a 1.6L?

2. What parts do I need to hook the piping up to the throttle body?

3. What kind of tubing do I use to hook up to the engine so the ecu can read my o2?

4. DID I MISS ANYTHING?

I anyone has ever done this before please reply and send me some pics. I would really appreciate a ton of replys. THANKS!!!

A few people have done custom intakes for the 1.6L. Most people cut up the old air box to use the little piece where the MAF plugs in. I believe the piping needed is 2.5" ID. Ben Dean has a site up with his version of a custom intake. http://www.protege00.com/intake.htm I've already cut up my air box, and just need to get off my *** and go grab a filter and a pipe. Take a look at that, and see if it suits your needs for a custom 1.6L intake.

While it's not a 3rd gen or a 1.6L i have lots of info and pics on my site. And yes i do beleive 2.5" is good, maybe even 2.25" for the 1.6L. the link is in my sig below.

Infact, i just made a new one (not pictured yet) i used brass and copper peices for the hose nipples and JB Welded them to the tube. 2.5" pipe from JC Whitney and 2" hose adapters from Home Depot. Although these might be good, as i think they may not like the heat, they get VERY soft after a good drive....but good ones can be found online at most motorsport shops.

Question WHO OWNS AN AEM SHORT RAM INTAKE? Post your pics!!!

I own a 1.6L pro so I can't get an AEM shorty so I decided to make a custom shorty. All I want is some pics of your guys' AEM shortys to help with the construction of my custom intake. Please REPLY. THANKS.

SHORT AIR OR COLD AIR?

THE FACTORY ECU DOES NOT WORK WELL WITH WARM AIR ON THE 1.6........YOU NEED COLD AIR TO GET ANY RESULT. THE INJEN IS WORTH THE $. A SHORT RAM MIGHT EVEN HURT PERFORMANCE BECAUSE OF THE WARM ENGINE BAY AIR. UNFORTUNATELY I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE.
