timing what? confused
does my 2002 Protegé ES have a timing chain or a timing belt? is it a non-interference motor or is it an interference motor? in other words, do i have to worry about it?... maybe someone can explain what the differences are in chain and belt... i'm confused, i've seen both being told on different sites.. i want to know. Thank you!

Chains are more durable but noisy and heavier. They last much longer than belts and usually don't drive anything else, such as a water-pump.
An old timing chain makes a formidable weapon if you open a link, then take the drive stud out of a 15 inch breaker-bar and pin one end of the chain to it. Better have a wrist strap on the breaker-bar if you ever actually swing it at anybody though. Wouldn't do to throw it away by accident.

Belt is a belt (rubber) a chain much like it sounds is a chain like a bike chain.
ISnt a timing belt more efficent or something.
I saw on hp tv (spike) they did the conversion to free up some extra power. Does that make anysense?
