tranny problems anyone?

Why does it seem that all of the sudden people are having problems with their trannies and clutches? Is summer bringing out some glitches in the trannies? Or is it just bringing out some bad driving. All of the issues seem to be with MTXs, which does worry me a bit as I have 2 of them. Any ideas on how to prevent the issues that rae happening? (other then shifting better) So far this seems to be about the only mechanical issue that the protege has. I guess every car has its achilles heel.

I think it just appears to be worse than it is...There have been a few on this board that have had problems with G-15M-R's, but they make up probably not even 1% of the people that own the same transaxle...We hear about it becuase thats what this board is for...but I have been to a ton of different car forums, and they seem to talk about a lot more manual transaxle problems than we have...

I think it is just bad luck, and possibly driving habbits...Most people that had the problems noticed a couple of quirks before the gearbox completely failed...So I would reccomend taking the car to the dealership immediately if anything abnormal happens, if you have done any gearbox modifications, including shifters, bushings, even gear *****, remove them and replace it with the stock components before the service...From what I have heard on this board, most of the time it is the shift forks (3rd gear mostly) that have problems...Just don't shift like an idiot (not saying the people that had problems shifted like an idiot). More than likely you will be fine...

Well the main problem lies in the differential since the spider gears are very weak thus the reason they only cost about 50 bucks. The gears and syncros are pretty good but the differential does'nt like being beaten around. You can fix this with a quafie differential though. Also for longer tranny life consider switching your transmission fluid to Redline MTL fluid or Royal Purple Syncromax. It will shift smoother and have less problems.

My transmission which is the G5M and virtually identical to the g15m-r never had a single problem till one day at around 75k it started to click. I took it immediatly home and changed transmission shortly thereafter. We knew it was the differential since we could jack up both front tires and put it into gear and rotate the tire you could feel the bad gear in the differential. Others on zx2 forums have had thier differentials go out much faster than my own between 40-50k seems to be the general range for those who beat it occasionally. 20-30k is for those who beat it weekly or semidaily.

I think the big things not to do would be not to spin out or to hard shift gears especially second and third and especially not on dry pavement. Better to slip the clutch between gears.

I never spun mine on dry so I'm guessing thats the reason I never had problems till 75k.

The manual transmission is acutally very strong overall you just need to be a little careful not to force thei shifter through the gears and not to chirp yoru tires through every gear.

The Atx is actually worse. Especially if its the one I think it is. If its the F4Eat which they use on the late model scorts its really Pita because it will not take much abuse. This of course could be corrected for about 3k if you go through level ten they will build you and unbreakable atx tranny that will never die.

I have driven mine pretty hard for almost 65,000; no problems. I take a lot of care refining my shifting constantly. I do drive the car pretty hard too, and no problems.

yeah i drive mine pretty hard too. no problems with the tranny, can't say the same for the engine tho.

maybe its cuz me and glyph_99es have the 1.8L's and the F-series tranny, and its just the G-series that have those problems.... cuz i haven't heard of any F-series screwing up, unless i'm just blind and cannot see the posts

EDIT: ok i just read post on one screwing up hehe, but thats only one!!!!
