Tranny Slipping, clutch chatter
I was sitting in traffic in NYC on my way from VA to Maine. Well I guess I heated my clutch up enough and got the flywheel hot. I started feeling the clutch slipping (referred to as the "bunny Hop"). I went to the service dept at my dealer when I got home and they test drove it, They didn't even have to leave the parking lot before they said its bad. They are going to replace everything in the clutch and flywheel assy. I have read threads about this, I was going to include a thread "bunny hopping solved" but the search is not working. As he said in that post, take it in. I got a rental car till mine is done.

yeah if you feel chattering when you are cold that is said to be normal in newer stock clutches. Ours don't have a huge threshold so they engage fairly quickly compared to some other compacts (some Honda's for example) and it is caused by "hot spots" on the flywheel. The Clutch blade or disc slides more on the real cold spots and grabs the hot spots and makes things feel like it will break apart. It annoys me but I have also heard it gets better with more mileage.
If you have chatter all the time you could have a glazed flywheel or even a leaking rear main seal, which you would know about anyway most likely.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation. Mine goes away when I slip the clutch a bit to get it warmed up. My friend w/ the Subaru was told that the bell housing around the flywheel is not sealed, as in most Japanese cars, so he was told the cause is condensation on the clutch plates, hmm

My car has just hit the 30000 km mark ,
and its only just started to (chatter). However in my car it will do it in first gear and some times second,
and will keep doing that for as long as I drive it .
Untill for example I stop at future shop and come back 15 minutes later. Then it drives like normal.
I'm concidering taking it in to the dealer.
I really dont like that Braking sound it makes
you can feel it in the petals when the clutch is just about to engage the fly wheel. other then that the car has been great fun
