turbo, or new engine?
I have an automatic 99 ES with a 1.8l engine. I want to make it faster, but I don't want to change to 5 speed. What would be better to do, buy a whole new engine, or just get a turbo for my stock engine? Thanks for any help!

i dunt knwo about the automatic
but i knwo that with the manual transmission, the stock 1.8L engine is almost maxing out what the transmission can hold (torque wise)
if i was you, i would turbo the suker, that is my plan for my 1.8L (if i decide to do anything to the protege, i might just go get an RX-7 instead)
i dunno what u mean by a new engine, there isn't many engine swaps available for the protege
you could go get a FS-ZE, there would be no point in changing over to the FS-DE (it will make your pro a little bit faster, but i dunt think it would be enough to see a difference....
the 1.8L right now beats out most 2.0L, it does depend alot on driver, the reason the 2.0L will make you a little faster, is cuz the older 3rd gen pros (what we have) have less weight than the newer ones.... which will give us that little better performance boost outta switching to a 2.0L
but whats the point, all that money to do an engine swap, for so little gains... i'd rather go turbo....
plus what new engine are you thinkign about

I didn't have an engine in mind, I was juss wondering what other people would say.
Turbo was is what I was planning on, but I just wanted to see if anyone had a better idea. thanks for your info.
