Underdrive Pulley?

Researching an UD pulley, looks to be a decent upgrade. However, I want to know in advance:

Do I need to buy more items to allow this pulley to work, or is it a direct swap out?

As well, does anyone have any images of one installed? I'd like to see one in use/installed rather than a just stock image.

As well, what know how will I need for this? Am I going to need to visit a shop for the install?

Lastly, is this a set it and forget it mod, or does it need constant tuning/maintenance.

Thanks for any help!

It is a standalone mod but like all mods will work better when coupled other lightening/rotating mods.

It is set-it-and-forget-it. No worries there. The gain will be very minimal though and if you have a larger stereo you should write it off.

It can be done by a skilled person at home with simple tools but if you're unsure about it then I'd suggest taking it to someone with a lift. It makes the job 10xs easier.

Ah, yeh I do have a larger stereo, about 600w. Protege Garage claims gains of 15% when everything is underdriven, so just checking it out first.

I know about the air mods (intake, exhaust etc) but not too much about actual engine mods.

Would a set of high compression or forged pistons show a gain? Or am I better off doing headers/downpipe/exhaust?

Header FTW! This is the usual pairing of mods. Then intake manifold VTCS removal and polish.

what do u mean write it off? forget about the udp b/c the stereo would be underpowered? i ordered the rr-racing udp and should be here within the next day or 2. i found a how to for it so i am hoping it wont be too hard. just not sure what everyone is referring to about making sure they are aligned correctly and tightened. how do you align then and how do you tighten them? i havent been under the car to look yet so maybe it will be obvious once i take the tire off. and also, what is meant by half inch deflection (in the how to)

How-To Install UDP- This uses the RR-Racing UDP

dude, you don't need to be doing this job on your car by yourself. Take it to an experienced person with a lift (pref.)

it's not the entire set like protegegarage has, it's just the one pulley. i guess i will ask around to see how much it will cost and go from there.

Two completely different jobs.
If feasible (maintenance due anyway):
I would pair the UDP install with a timing belt change or water pump.
I would pair the rear mount job with an intake VTCS remove and polish.

i called an automotive place over here and they said it would be like 105-140 to have it installed. wtf! the motor mount is only like 100 at the stealer. that price is quite deterring. he quoted me 1.5-2hr job...i dont see why so long especially when they have all the tools and experience.

i can get an impact driver to get the bolt off the pulley and try myself... :-\ and i need to get a tq wrench anyway so i can use that to put it back on. what are the tq specs, anyone know?

the rear mount is more like a 4hour job, right tools or not. its not at all easy to get to on these cars.
