FYI,
I deal with Andrew all the time. I got him a set of blank cams though my sponsership with Mazda, he speced them had them ground and they are installed on a customer car dynoed and working great for over za month now! If you want the cams give Andy a call and he'll hook you up he has dyno sheets available. He 's kinda of slow on updating the web site becuase he so busy developing and making parts to make us zoom-zoom! http://wagnermotorsports.net/index.htm

But this isn't an off the shelf part yet, right?. I assume I would have to somehow come up with blank cams (and it won't be through Mazdaspeed because I am not registered with their motorsports group), ship them to Wagner, and pay for a custom machining job. Sounds more expensive than buying a part that was:
1) made in volume
2) made using blanks that were ordered in bulk

I can't wait until I can order up a set of cams for around five bills, and have them show up a week and a half later on my doorstep.

guys if these gains are true than that mean there be a lot of fast *** prtoeges running around. and it appears that he did not dyno it at the wheels, but rather the crank. But 26hp is 26 hp and that is all good. I can think of how I will be stomping the mustang gt's after this, instead of just hanging with them I will leave them now. I dont know about you guys but my header helped me a bunch. You cant tell until you race someone. Then you will see the gains. So if the cams are pushing that much power then they will be ungodly compared to the headers!

good cams will make an engine breathe so much better it'll feel like a different motor...imagine having honda top end pull with mazda low-end torque....you'll get the idea.

also, mods like intake and header will be further amplified..

All concerned if there is enough interested he'll keep sets of cams around I'm sure. If not it will be a by order type deal. Given the Protégé market and what it is he'll probably only keep a couple sets on the shelf. Best bet is to call Wagner Motorsports 717-846-1570 and make a direct inquiry. Lastly one will not be required to obtain their own blank cams when ordering the cams from Andrew. I only got him the blank set for R&D proposes in trade for some work he did on my race car as I was placing a huge order with Mazdaspeed any-who. NOTE Andrew is the only guy I know of with tested and working Turbo specific Cams.

Remember the Protégé is not huge market for aftermarket performance products so if you want quality you’re going to have to wait or make it yourself. If you want it now buy an Honda or a Mustang. Hell I have a hard time finding good stuff for my WRX and most of the stuff that’s out there even though it is in stock it's crap, doesn't fit right, cost five times what is actually cost to put together, etc. One can get Jspec cams but those are designed for a JSPEC car meaning ECU programming etc. Andrews’s cams are designed and work with the US spec Protégé with real world gains. The Protégé market hasn't been real profitable for Andrew, in fact it’s been more of a pain in the *** but he keeps making quality parts the work for us and I thank him. Wagner Motorsports, Cork Sport, SR Racing, and AWR are the only producers of parts worth a damn for the late model Protégé and getting anything from any of them takes time and patience. Lastly one can have anything they want for the right amount of money. If you own a Protégé your not considered one with a ton of money (not a very prosperous market) in the first place so be grateful there are any parts available for us at all. If I was in the aftermarket performance parts business the is no way in hell I would waste my time making stuff for Protégés. The folks that do it are defiantly only doing it for the love of the Sport and my hats is off to them. Thank You!

I don't think anyone is trying to dog wagner, hell they do a lot for us. But they got our hopes up with these cams. I have e-mailed them 3-4 times to finde a little more on these cams because I would buy them if they do what wagner is claiming they do. I asked if the 26whp is just off the cams or if they had other mods as well. I already have the exhaust (wagner shorty header this week) CAI, and will be buying the little down pipe when the header gets in. If this is all that he did to the car and with adding the cams got an additional 24.6 whp thin hell yes I and others would buy in a heart beat.
The only reason I am not a believer is he hasn't replied to any of our e-mails about them. I am on pins and niddles waiting on info about these cams.

Wagner's great. I love my header, and I think its quality construction and good engineering are probably indicative of what that company is all about. My point was that until cams become mass produced, I assumed it would have been a hassle to get a hold of anything but the J-Spec cams. But perhaps, as suggested, I am wrong on this point. No need to misconstrue my post noting that we have a limited selection of aftermarket parts as anything against Wagner or any other company. I think there is a market for Protege parts. After all, if the aftermarket can support the Mini, they certainly can support us as well - and profitably if well marketed. The vendors we do have supporting us are by and large great companies to work with.

As far as Protege owners not having a lot of money - speak for yourself. I blew over 20G on my loaded P5, and it's not the only (recent model year) car that I own. If saving money was all I was interested in, I would have purchased a Kia or something similar. Considering that Mazdas typically are so communicative and well handling, the low prioe just happens to mean that they are a decent value as well as a lot of fun. More fun, in fact, than a lot of other cars out there. Once upon a time, I did own a Mustang. And despite great aftermarket support for the Ford, I wouldn't want to give up my Mazda for one. Or for a Civic, for that matter.
