Weird Smell on new 2002 DX

i picked up my 2002 protege yesterday. The only complaint I have is the weird smell comming from the engine compartment when I lift the hood or even just stand near the car (after driving). I think it is just the car being broken in. (oils burning off the outside of engine etc.) If anyone else has had this smell let me know!!!!! I only have 150 miles on it!!! Should i be worried about the smell???? What else could it be??? Paranoia???

Just the smell of a new car. All the gum on various stickers off-gasing, grease off-gasing, rubber hoses off-gasing as they cure, etc... Drive your car and don't worry.
DITTO....its just part of the process.....guess you noticed the INSIDE smells funny too....has that PLASTIC smell.....most people call it the "new car smell"....well that goes away too.

its nothing to be concerned about....enjoy your new car.

The "new car smell" doesn't bother me....and I figured it was just me being paranoid with the engine compartment smell. Thanks for clearing it up though. Makes me feel better.

I love it!!!! My GF hates it!!! She gets jealouse of my car. I had a 99 cougar (auto), then I totalled it. Had a few mods on it...nothing major. Now that I have a stick shift, I am even more into it.

don't worry about it.....they all get that way....just REMEMBER to take the time to really pay attention to her too....your g/f that is.

sooner or later they either do one of two things.....they either learn to understand about guys and their cars...or they leave and you find a new one that does understand...or even totally gets into it as much as you do....they do exist. :{D
