What oil and oil filters are everyone using?

Not to be a post *****, but...
I use OEM oil filters. I use Mobil 1. I change three times/year. In fall, use 5W-30. In spring and mid-summer, 10W-30. I am not afaid at all to go to 5k miles between changes.
I have no doubt this is overkill. I have no doubt I could use a conventional oil like Castrol GTX on this regimen, no problem. If I did switch to conventional, I'd go to 3 month or 3000 mile oil changes. again, overkill.

If I can't turn it by hand, I use a rubber strap wrench. Works good at angles and I put a loose wire-tie around the handle to keep the strap in place while I'm reaching up to the filter. I tighten 3/4 - 1 turn after contact.
Castrol oil and Bosch 3300 filter. That's the only filter I've found that keeps the valvetrain quiet during the first 10 seconds after cranking.

I use the cheapest zellers, crappy tire, walmart oil going as a test of course and have had no problems so far. Actually, I am about to do a test where as i go to walmart and get them to do a tranny flush, coolant flush and I guess I'll let them do the oil and and filter. all as a package deal. We will see! I have a 01 protege which I always (well mostly always do the oil and filter myself) and it has ~98000kms. I just replaced the plugs with bosch plat 4, only because I did not want to bother setting any gaps and they were half price, so price canadian was only $8.99 compared to 4.99-6.99 for a plug I had to gap. Anyways, my overall point is that cheap oil and filters ect can be used with no problems as long as you chnage them out as recommended by the manufacturer. But we will see if I get another 100000kms out of her. Those "3"'s are cute cars though!!! can I hold off.

I wouldn't put a Fram on a bicycle, they are crap. I work at a autoparts store and had one cut open. They have paper end capsand are glued togeather.
I use Wix/NAPA gold filters, AC Delco are good, and so is Motorcraft which you can buy at Wal-mart for 2 peanut shells and the plastic E-brake off a Transformer Big Wheel

It's funny to read how everyone trashes Fram. My first Civic engine lasted for over 200k and saw nothing but a fram filter and Castrol GTX 10W-30. I don't know the ins and outs of filters but I'd say that's pretty good for a crappy filter. All I know is that I see a lot of people talking out of their asses with no hard data to prove anything. To me the Fram sure grip is the best thing to happen to oil filters.
