I have heard from a number of people that GM Synchromesh MTF is the best stuff you can pour into a manual tranny. The same stuff they sell OTC at the Chevy dealer and pour into Cavaliers is what GM race teams use.

Does the protege transmission use a transmission cooler???
The reason I ask is because some here have stated they are using Redline mtl90.
I wish to point out a couple of problems with this. Redline MTL 90 is a thicker Transmission fluid thus it will not flow as well as say just redline MTL fluid so you won't be able to bleed off heat away from transmission as well. You will recieve all the benefits such as shifting smoother and the like but beware if you take a long trip the transmission will heat up and might possibly lock up due to way too much heat. I've seen this on 3 occasions with G5m Transmissions and the protege uses the very close cousin of it the G15m. The lockup usually occurs at highway speeds and it will be both front wheels locking up. Not mention it will crack your clutch.
Your best bet is to pick up Redline MTL fluid not the MTL90 . If you use mobile 1 get the syncromax stuff. If you use royal purple again the syncromax stuff.

Gregersonsalvag,
Not sure I follow your thinking. MTL is 70w80 where MT 90 is 75W90. The first part of your statment is true, the 70W would be thinner than the 75W for the cold portion but 90 weight would cover higher temps where the 80 would not.
Also 75W90 is the recommended weight for our transmissions.
I have also used Mobil 1 and found it to be no better than what came in the tranny to start. I switched to MT 90 and noticed a big improvement in shifting and 2nd gear crunch.
