what's the HP for the Protege?
#17
Ok Torque, I stand corrected. But the point I was making is that it is relative across the board for all the cars racing and the protege is up against cars like the BMW that stock has 185HP. I have a hard time believing that the Protege is the only make with an engine modified to be a race motor in this series.

The wise words of Bob Hall come in handy once again...
"If you can't go fast with 90HP, 900HP won't help you."

Yes, the Protegé isn't as powerful as some (a lot) of comparable cars on the road, but sheer power isn't what the Pro is all about. As mentioned above, it's more of a package thing... I defy you to find another car that looks as awesome, feels as great, and performs as well as the Protegé in its price range. You can't! IMHO, the power generated from the engine is well-matched with the great handling characteristics of the car. I was surprised at the lack of body roll in my 'stationwagon' when I test drove it. If need be, I can go faster than just about anything that decides to cruise past me on the road. Especially over that curvy hill up ahead...

I also agree. It's all about the package, not just lots of horsepower in an inaccessible range. I am very impressed with my Pro, styling, handling, agility, comfort, and the powerband from 4000-6500. It's a great car.
I remember one of the first times I was out driving it, I had to swerve to miss a pothole going over a bridge. The car I used to have didn't have power steering, and therefore a much slower steering ratio; it felt like I was going to roll the car it responded so quickly.

I definately don't belive in bombing on protege's and saying that these cars suck.. straight line performance isn't that great but i have taken both my friend's civic ex's and 4 cylinder accord's (MT's) in light races easily, to get things straight dynos come up at just about 103 whp... yeah top end isn't that great but the pro def knows how to handle...in car and driver ( i think it is) the mp3 was just behind the 911 turbo for handling, matched up with cars such as the Z06 and the M3, another article in the lastest Super Street indicates that some guy pulled about 500 hp out of the stock 2.0 block...one other thing... if you think you can't pull power out of our cars then ask Spoolin, right now his car is at 203 whp with 8lbs of boost i believe....if straight line performance was the downside i guess that's what they made the MS protege for..

i have a custom intake and a custom exaust w/vibrant muffler and some 8.5 mm wires. My car must be like a completely diffrent car then everyone else's. I've never dynoed my car but i don't think im only puttin high 90's or 101's, 102's, etc. to the ground. I have taken stock integra ls's, ive taken galants, and ive never had a problem takin civics (unless the did they whole d16 or above engine swap). Ive also takin accords from the line, but when accords get going...they go. Also i can really feel my powerband kick in at around 4000-4500 rpms. I don't think my car is FAST, but it can kick some butt. And i have an auto. oh and ive takin a v6 camaro for about 200 ft. but that coulda been the driver. So what im getting at is not all engines are the same.
Or maybe thats not what im getting...errrr im so freakin tired. I need to go to sleep. Maybe i should take some time and think about what i'm going to write before i write it. Anyway good nite all.

WTF don't Si's have 160 HP?
so
Civic Si
112.8/160(HP) = 29.% loss
90.5/111(TQ) = 18.4684684684684684684684684685% loss
Protege(5)
103.6/130 (HP) = 20.3076923076923076923076923077% loss
113.8/135 (TQ) = 15.7037037037037037037037037038% loss
so that means that the protege's lose less power than the Si throught the drive train? is that correct?
