whine in 2nd and a tough shift

Recently got a P5 its at 1700m currently. I've been experiencing a bit of whine in 2nd gear and noticed that it's difficult to shift into 2nd even after being warmed up. My wife's LX doesn't seem to have this problem but its at 20k miles currently so it's nicely broken in. I know that starting in the cold is always a pain in these cars but even after driving 5-10 miles a shift up to 2nd from 1st or a shift down from 3rd is tougher to get in then the other gears. Double clutching doesn't seem to help this either. I'm taking it in for te first oil change next week and I'll have the mechanics look at it but any thoughts? Does it just need some breaking in time?

the whine you are talking about could be just noise from the diff. They tend to make a high pitch mechanical sound sometimes under certain conditions, but its that bad I don't think. Tell the technicians about it and they should change the fluid for you. As far as difficult to shift into to second, I have heard a lot of good things about Red Line synthetic gear oil. Maybe pick up 3 qts of that and you could fill the gearbox yourself +forget about the dealership...But when its cold it will most likely still make that damn grind/clunk noise...

In my experience (02 P5) I thought the shifting did get better around the 7000 mile mark, so maybe it needs a longer break in time than most cars. The improvement was noticable, but it is still a slow gearbox to shift, and still occasionally grinds for me going into second when cold.

I tried the redline tranny oil too. I really can't say I noticed that much of a difference in my car.
