I have a 1999 Protege DX 1.6L. I bought it new and now it has 152,000 miles on it. When i was checking things today, i turned on the ac, and nothing happened. The light came on, no cooling fans and no compressor. The blower blew air, which was the outside temp, about 50 degrees. The defroster always turns it on, regardless of the temp. I cant seem to figure out what is wrong. I thought atleast the cooling fans would come on briefly and the compressor even though it might be low on freon. Nothing triggers it to go on, but the green light comes on the button. It cant possibly be low on freon, it used to work all the time, up until i checked it today.

 

You either have low freon (caused by a leak) or a bad compressor. I hope it's just a leak!

no cooling fans ??? You mean the radiator fan ??? If the compressor isnt coming on either you blew a relay, or the compressor is low on freon, or the compressor is bad.
