240 hp protege

Engine by itself = 14,000 dollars from Sunbelt
probably at LEAST 5 sets of lightweight wheels, each set @ ~1700 bucks

The engines are indeed Sunbelt engines that are built from from the stock engine that was received with the car. Now add the cost of spare engines into the cost of the car. NOTHING is stock with these engines. Even the intake manifold is a custom made item (on some cars).
The power would be nice, but as PseudoRealityX stated, you won't be able to get too many miles on them.

Is the only real reason we couldn't use the engines in our street cars because they are so stressed and would need constant maintenance? Or am I missing something? Obviously we would need new engine/fuel management, but besides that what is the problem?

sacrificing reliability for performance is common for race engines, since they don't expect the engine to last 150,000 miles in 1 build...

I hear that the speed world challenge protege has gone through like three engines while the rsx is still running on the same one....how honda made the rsx engine more durable and with more hp and torque than the fs with the same 2.0 displacement blows my mind

forget the cost of the engine, the cost of everything else is gonna run ya... All the internals will have to be hardend to take the pushishment that the engine will dish out.. and the poor transmission would snap in no time hahah joking.. but ya.. I am guessing alot more has been changed besides the engine.. your probably looking at something that has more in common with a Honda Civic then the standard mazda/ford relationship lol hahha

ummm and Tri-Point is going thru multiple engines a year...where the competition is using maybe one or two...the FS-DE cannot handle that kind of stress...you can get way more than 240 hp with out spending $14K for an engine plus install and youll need a haltech to run it, plus tranny mods

240 hp i nothing for our motors if you can do installs yourself all yo need is about 3k and a visit to shaneracing.com, you can get pulleys, cam gears, crankshafts, clutches you name it to build the motor first withou turbo you could be at 220at the crank then you can run turbo with about 7 lbs of boost you could get close to 300 or more hp. the reason i know this is when i first bought my sedan the first place i went to was japtrix racing in lakeworth , FL this guy had a 2002 p5 running on a t3/t4 turbo on 8psi and got 213 to the wheels i drove in it and bitch pinned me to the seat.
