240 hp protege
#31
I've been all over srmotorsports.com...it's nothing new...they overstate hp increase claims and still have NOTHING to make a 240hp FS-DE or FP-DE without a turbo...you can get high compression pistons, mazdaspeed cams, underdrive pulleys, adjustable cam gears,CAI,catback and you will be NOWHERE NEAR 240hp....with everything they have installed you might be at 150-160 horsepower maximum and maybe with a haltech to control fuel and take full advantage of the higher compression you could reach 170-180....but 240hp na on this without a LOT more work is utterly rediculous

bro i dont know what kind of motor you have but if you are telling me that the most you can get is 150-160 you obviously dont have a mazda motor cause mine comes with 130 stock and right now with my intake exhaust and my resistor i have around 147 at the crank wbh i have 118, stuff that i have listed earlier as mods a without even tearing apart the motor, I KNOW THAT IF YOU WERE TO GET CAMS GEARS , CAM SHAFTS, PULLEY, PORT AND POLISH THE HEAD BORE AND STROKE THE MOTOR YOU CAN EASILY MAKE CLOSE TO 240. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN TAKE A TRIP DOWN HERE TO FT. LAUDERDALE AND I WILL PUT YOU IN 220 HP PROTEGE AND IT IS IN A 2000.

lol look at the rest of his post...resistor??? lol he did the damn IAT mod.it's total bullcrap..you should really do some research...there are people on this board with intake/exhaust/headers/cams that are not dynoing over 130hp at the wheels...and PLEASE dont make crank claims unless you are actually pulling your engine and putting it on a crank dyno.....port and polish does NOT net that much power unless you are turbo and i guarantee you dont know anyone with a 220hp protege without a turbo unless he spent WAY more than $3K in engine mods....also who in the hell told you you can bore and stroke an FS-DE engine?? bore it to what?? stroke it with what?? most you could prolly bore the FS-DE is maybe to 2.05 without comprimising the block, lol which would be negligible gains at best, and there isnt anything avail to stroke that 2.0 protege, plus it would rev like **** anyway if it was stroked

i am done arguing with you guys cause you are the kind of guys that have to see to beleive, but if you wont take my word for it i invite you to come to ft.lauderdale if you want i will talk to my buddy with the 2000 es and i will even meet you half way with his car and see who is talking trash, and just for your info gcs118 with the resistor at 5000rpm the car has more pull buy one and try it for yourself it works in my car. it is pretty obvious that you guys under estimate mazda power but that is your loss no loss of mine. (but once agin i open an invitation for you to see an all motor protege that is running in the 240 region).

no need to argue or drive to Ft Lauderdale...post a copy of this guys dyno and prove it...also btw i talked to a guy at srmotorsports and he said if you bought every performance part he had avail: pistons, cams, cam gears, intake, catback, and underdrive pulleys(which btw underdrives do not increase hp,they reduce parsitic drag, so you'd have a higher dyno pull, but crank would be the same)that you could probably dyno around 150,after proper tuning on a dyno..bear in mind the FS-DE stock dynos around 97hp so this is substantial though hardly at 240hp...however the parts alone are around $2200, that doesnt include an install or a dyno tune...and your average shadetree mechanic doesnt have the tools to install pistons...install and dyno tune would easily be over $1000...machine work like boring or a port and polish would be quite a bit more and we are already over our $3000 target here...and forget about making a stroker motor....there are NO parts avail to stroke a 2.0, and stroking a 1.8 FP-DE would be dumb for a big 8hp gain, especially considering the 1.8 rev's cleaner..and to revisit the boring over issue...this is utterly rediculous on an FS block...read the FAQ to start...you wouldnt be able to bore the engine enough to yeild a substantial gain without making the piston walls so thin that the block would crack the first time it heated up...and again the higher compression pistons would yeild little gains without the electronics to take advantage of them, like a $1000-$1500 haltech system, again putting us well over $3K....so tell me what your friend has done to his engine that cost him less than $3000 to get a $220 NA beast and post a dyno run to prove it....until then.....

Essential Speed
Guys Essential speed builds a stage 2 kit for the 2.0 proteges that puts something like 242 HP at the wheels. The kit includes intercooler, downpipe, o2 sensor, high flow cat, turbo and turbo header, stainless intake and intercooler tubing, ceramic coated everything else, BOV, boost controller, fuel management unit... all for around $4500 CDN dollars... Check it out, also they offer tranny cooler upgrades so you dont smoke your tranny with all your new found boost. www.essentialspeed.com

The tranny's were the weak link most of the time. Many times the Tri-Point cars could "kill em all" in the twisties but would get out ran down the straights. I think Tri-Point is fielding a team of Mazda 6's this year. Hopefully Shauna Marinus will be driving one. Don't forget that in this series if you win you get a "lead trophy". they add weight to the winner of each race.
