3000 Mile Maintenance
Anyone know the components of this standard maintenance? It's not listed in the owner's manual! Can you believe that? I've heard an oil change and tire rotation...what else? Thanks for your input!

In case it matters, I got a card in the mail a short time after having my P5, and it told me how much mileage should be on my car(they were off by 200 miles....trip to atlanta). The card told me to bring my car in, or call to make an appointment to have my car serviced around 3750 miles. It cost me 21.95 and they changed the oil, and just checked everything out. No road test at least Hope this helps.

3750 service
I just had the 3750 service (at 3550 miles). The Dealer told me to bring it in and also sent me a coupon for 19.95. Just an oil change and fluid check, I think. But because I bought the car there, they gave it to me free. Can't hurt to ask (or rather, insist!)

Come on...don't take it to the dealer they don't know how to wash a windshield.
I went to the dealer for a "free" oil change. I never take my car to a dealer but I had just bought the car from them and they insisted that I come in for a free oil change so I figured WTF I'd just get the free oil and filter and it's a pretty simple job that they shouldn't mess up. So anyways I brought it in and everything seemed to go well. I brought the car home and double checked their work. They ended up putting over 5 quarts of oil in the car when it takes less than 4. So I had to take out the oil pain plug to let some out. I had to do it about 5 times because I didn't want to take too much oil out.
Anyways, to make a long story short, alot of people that go to the dealer for service don't check over their cars when they are finished to see if the tech messed anything up so if they were in my shoes they would have been driving around with over a quart of oil extra in the engine for months until it was time to change it again.
Correct me if I'm wrong but changing the oil is probably the simplest and most basic thing you could do to a car to keep it running well. If the stupid techs can't change the oil in a car do you think you should trust them doing a more serious job???
Unless it has something to do with the computer I will never take my car to a dealer for them to do any work. They don't care about your car, that's why they just air wrench all the bolts on so you can't get them off, and overfill your oil, and all that other great stuff. They just want to get it done so they can get their money.

I guess people choosing from several dealers might consider the quality of the service departments. Maybe ask questions on this board. Though I don't think you should recommend people never go to a dealer for service.

I just gave our P5 it's first oil change (2800 miles) last weekend. I bought 6 OEM filters online (3.99 ea.) and Mobile 1 from Walmart. I'm sure the rings have seated by now, but if it start using an inordinate amount of oil I'll switch back to nonsynthetic for a bit.

OEM Oil Filter
I swapped my oil to Mobil 1 and also started using the Mobil 1 filter at 3013 miles...first oil change, and I plan to keep Mobil 1 forever. The OEM oil filter was hard to get off! I had to buy a "universal" oil filter tool to remove it at Auto Zone for $6.35 USD, but I am gonna return it and get a refund because I don't need it anymore. Mobil 1 filter's are slightly smaller, and I have the tool that fits perfectly to put them on and take them off. Just thought I'd say Mazda's OEM filter isn't to my liking..in terms of size at least

one of the problems when you overfill is that you run the chance of having so much oil in the oil pan that the crankshaft will whip the oil into a froth and then your oil system will be filled with oil that has air bubbles in it. that casues a lack of lubrication.
normally the crankshaft is far enough away from the oil that it has no effect on it.
