sorry for the threadjack but as for what your doing i would reccommend boosting the 1.8 if you have all the money to do that conversion i would just boost the 1.8 and do some nice simple exterior mods like a lip kit or that nice bumper up a few post.

just my 2 cents though.

what makes the 1.8L better then the 2.0L ??

Trust me, a BIG SWAP is a time-consuming and money-consuming event. It CAN be done however, but be prepared to be absolutely out-of-your-mind frustrated by it. Especially if there is no "kit" for your swap, because then you REALLY are on your own! And I'm speaking from experience here....I lived through the V8-swapped Focus event!!!

there was a discussion on it a while ago on one of the other forums, www.clubprotege.com or www.msprotege.com ... i dont remember though, its not necessarily better but it can stack up just as well to a 2.0 from what they were talking about .

the 2.0L fs-de is a stroked version of the 1.8L engine. Engines with higher redlines are more efficient and make better overall power. Look at an S2000 engine and the same engine in the Element without the stratospheric redline...big difference. I'm not really comparing apples to apples but the main point is that an engine with a higher redline will produce more power or more linear power delivery due to it's inherent design characteristics (bore/stroke)
