acceleration dip

acceleration dip
I've got a 2002 Protege5, manual trans, with 40000 km.
When I accelerate hard from a stop I notice that the engine pauses for a split second. I notice the rpm gauge will dip slightly somewhere between 1000 and 2000 rpm and then continue up.
If I accelerate at a slower rate, it will go smoothly.
Anyone else's car doing this?

hello ad768 and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.
make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.
Welcome!!
YEP....its your driving style.....your engine will do this as you let out the clutch and go from partial to fully engaged without changing the position on your gas pedal....thus not increasing the power your engine is putting out during that "split second" you go from where the clutch is slipping a bit to not slipping at all and now the engine has picked up additional load and the rpm dips momentarialy till you start to accelerate again....IF You were constantly increasing the power output of the engine at a proportional increase as you increased the load on it you wild not notice the dip in the RPM. .....you will notice if you allow the clutch to slip a tiny bit it won't do that....but "DIPPING" is not hurting anything...in fact the faster you smoothly get the clutch fully engaged the less wear on it.....its just a normal thing....nothing to worry about....
