Aftermarket Car Alarms

I'll start by telling you all a little story, so gather 'round the camp fire. On Saturday, I went out and bought an 650 watt amp and 12 inch audiobahn sub. I installed them with a friend in his driveway. I went home for a little, then the girlfriend came and picked me up (me not being able to drive due to surgery). When she was at my house, I popped my trunk and had her look at the goods (10:45PM). I came home at 11:22PM to find my a cord hanging out of my trunk. Amp and sub had been stolen from the Protege from my driveway. Tuesday night comes around, I went to grab my backpack and to bring in my GPS, only to find that my GPS and radar detector had also been stolen from my car that was sitting in my driveway.

Now I know someone is out for me, and I dont want my car to get stolen, so I am thinking about buying an alarm. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any aftermarket alarm. I searched the forums and couldnt really find anything, so I thought I would ask.

Price range < $200

*The car was locked and windows were up.
*Insurence wont cover and my parents wont make a claim for house insurence because of the deductable and increase in their rate.
Thanks guys.

Buddy up with someone that works at Best Buy or somewhere. Viper 719VX is an AWESOME alarm (remote start too) and it's only $170 employee price. Otherwise it's gonna cost ya about $500. I have it on my P5 and it doesn't let people get near it at all, you can hook up a proximity sensor for about $40 that warns people when they close to your windows, and goes into full blast whenever anything gets inside the car. Also has an handy shock sensor, so if anyone hits it it'll warn them or go into full blast depending on how hard they hit it. Best thing fo all, it's a 2-way alarm with a kick-*** display so it's always telling you what's going on with your car ... not to mention it has about 250 yard radius when in open areas! All of it is really easy to adjust too, but the installation is not something I would attempt unless you really know your way with wires, fuses, and the such.

EDIT: Found a bargain for ya ... $190 hop on it!!!

2nd EDIT: Also, if you decide to get this setup you might find it handy to look into a DEI 530T module for your windows. The alarm is very friendly with adding extra devices into it and the 530T will let you control your windows by remote. Hold down the Aux button and it'll roll down the windows for you, and when you arm the alarm it rolls them back up automatically. It controls 2 windows both up AND down and ads the one-touch roll up and down to both windows. PM me if you wanna know more ...

This sounds like everything I need in my life (besides my **** back). Any idea how much it would cost to get installed? Do you happen to know how much the DEI 530T module is? And I know you probably don't have an answer to this, but how long do you think that site will have that deal? (I might need a little to get the money because as of right now, Im pretty much broke).

Thank you so much.

My only experience with this comes from Best Buy cuz I worked there before, but they charged about $100 for installation. Prices may vary from place to place so I would call around and ask about prices in your area. Check Best Buy/Circuit City, most sound shops will do those installs for cheaper though so just open up the phone book and start calling left and right! The DEI module is $30 or so on eBay all the time, and that's pretty cheap compared to retail price ($95 at Best Buy!) I have no idea about the website though ... your best shot is to try and get in touch with someone at that online store.

More random info...: The 530T is NOT the same as the 529T so watch out not to screw up like I did at first. The 530T will add one touch opening and closing on two windows and allow them to go both down and up. Whereas the 529T is meant for sunroofs and such because it will only make one window go up and down or make two windows go either both up or both down. The 529 also doesn't add the one-touch feature, so try to get your hands on a 530 if possible.

*Why* won't the insurance company cover it? Challenge it! They deny EVERYTHING the first time - you must be persistant

This is very interesting with the alarm.
When I read this and went to the site, thanks to KrayzieFox, I was like, "I WANT THIS ALARM!"

LOL

I like the feature with the remote start and automatic roll up windows. I'd have to be careful with the remote start though since I sometimes park in a gear so the car doesn't roll off somewhere, LOL.

Also, I said I like the automatic roll up/down windows but I may hardly ever use it since my windows are usually almost always up. But I still like that feature anyways.

LOL!!!

I saw that a long time ago and I thought to myself, "Hey, I wonder if that'll be illegal here?"
I think that's a really cool anti-theft solution for cars. LOL!

But the reason why I usually always have the windows up is not because of thieves, it's because of the climate here. It gets really hot so I usually always use my ac.

With my audio, I don't chance it. I'll pay the insurance - the cost to insure is cheaper than buying a new system. As well, the CompuStar Alarms are very good. I have one myself, it does the cool 'boop-boop' sound when you arm it. Sweet.

Question.... did your stock car alarm went off when your stuff were stolen?
