aftermarket parts, and the warranty?
Hey guys,
Got another question.
Like I said in the license plate thread I started, I just got a Pr5 on Saturday. I extended the warranty to 5 years. I'm curious what types of aftermarket upgrades I can do to it without voiding the warranty. I'm not looking to turn it into a hot rod, but I was going to put on a K&N filter. Not sure what else is out there that's reasonable and won't negate my warranty. Any suggestions?
Also, the dealership didn't warn me about having to break the engine in. I forgot to ask. Do you know if I should keep it below a certain mph for a while? If so, how long?
Thanks.

Keep it easy until
1000 miles. I keep it under 65,
K&N filter drop in will not affect you warranty.
I do not thin the Cold air intake will either But , I am not Mazda. you should get it right from the horses mouth.

The only time an after-market modification will void your warranty, is if you are taking your car in for warranty work, and they find out that the modification you made, is what caused the problem they have to work on. Now, i'm not positive about Forced Induction, or n2o, but intake, exhaust, and doin some exterior/interior mods won't void anything. however, if you're still worried about, call up MNAO, and ask them... they'll tell you minor mods won't void your warranty unless they caused the problem. thats what they told me atleast, a little over a year ago.

when i called my mazda dealership re: installing a CAI in my car, they said it will only void the warranty if they can attribute the warranty work to the modification. Otherwise, you're pretty much okay, but different dealerships can tell you different things...

While in law school
I did a little research and wrote this up. Don't quote it as scripture, but I think it'll help anyone out who's curious.

Usually, the aftermarket company will provide you with info on wether the product will affect the warranty or not. In most cases the company will most likely build a product that is compliant with laws and to the cars capabilities so they don't void a factory warranty. Who wants to void a factory warranty? If they do, it's probably going to take life out of the car, or it's illegal. Hope I could be some help.
