ok, hopefully someone can give me a solution to this problem.
obviosuly im up in canada, and they love salt on roads up here, unfortunatly, my interior carpet has suffered because of it. even with 2 mats down, i have developed a ring of salt around the carpet on the drivers side floor, can someone tell me how i could get this cleaned up, i tried pickin at it but its pretty hard, whats the best resolution to desolve it an clean my carpet up. its a black interior so its showin real bad blah i hate winter.

Heh...I think there's another thread on this exact same topic...
Anyway, I'd get one of those steam cleaners you can rent from Safeway. That would do the trick, I imagine. If you have access to a smaller steam cleaner that would work as well.
Alternatively, maybe a little bit of elbow grease and a brush w/ soapy water might work as well. I'd wait until Spring to clean though...no sense in cleaning and then getting snow and salt again.
And yes..winter does suck!

hey
thanx for the input. anyone else care to add, by all means go ahead
I havent any intentions of cleaning toll spring, anytime before that would jus be silly :P I think tho i might stick with teh steam clean option, i wanna do ti as deliquitly as possible, and a brush an elbow grease sounds too harsh for the carpet, i dont wanna tear it up :P
anyone lese with ideas??

I have the same problem leaving in Toronto especially this winter.
I vacuum the inside and then I take a wet cloth with soapy water and rub and rub and rub until I get it out. In the spring I will get the interior detailed where the shampoo your carpet and seats.

I use automotive upholstery and carpet cleaner to get those tough stains off the carpet and mats. Spray on, scrub with a brush, let dry, vacuum. Never had a problem getting salt stains out this way. Personally I only do this once a year when the snow's gone for good.

Why don't you guys take your snow brush and smack your boots a couple times so you don't track all the salt into the car in the first place. Come on don't tell me you didn't think of that one, I'm still trying to get out of the habbit of knocking them on the door sill like I do with my other car.
