Alternator Location- Just bitch'n

So I was changing my oil for the first time and I noticed how this 2.0 L engine is set up so similarly to my old 2.0L in my 86 626. If something works well then why change it right?...... why did they change the location of the alternator????? I know that moving the alternator gives you more room in the front but come on there is no air flow in the back of the engine (no air flow means bad bearings). I never changed the alternator even once on my old car and i had a decent draw from my stereo. Anyone ever do a mod to introduce a more air flow into that one area? I have come across some alternator ducts for large commercial veichles, anyone ever make one for their car???? Maybe I'm just worried about nothing, what's the track record of these alternators?

My old 2.0 Probe never had any problems out of the alternator. (Same Place) Except when I had a power steering hose leak right over it and it dripped all over it....
