Annoying beep when starting

I believe this is something all P5s have, but it might not be. Anyway, every time I turn on the car, I hear about 5 really really high pitched BEEPs come at me, and they get to be really annoying as well.
First of all, I'd like to know what the hell kind of purpose this beep actually serves.
Second of all, is there any way to stop it without voiding its' actual function, whatever that may be.
Third I guess, this is a characteristic of all P5s right?

I think it means, "prepare for take-off, cap'n".

Actually, my Datsun had a much worse "ding-dong" chime sound when the door was open, the lights were on, etc. Funny thing is, the 2000 Hyundai Sonata that my company uses as a pool vehicle makes exactly the same sound. Further proof that buying a brand new Hyundai is just like owning an old Japanese car.

Well this one seems to have something to do with the battery. When I start the car, the beeping starts and all the lights on the gauge cluster slowly dim away with the battery one being the last. Coincidentally enough, that's when the annoying beep stops too, so my guess was that it had something to do with the battery, just no clue what it exactly does.

heh, thats nothing, there was a period in life of Japanese cars in Europe, that used to make a loud annoying noise if you go over 60 65 mph and wont stop untill you slow your *** down from annoyance. I guess it was supposed to prevent drivers from speeding and recless driving but it just pissed alot of them off.
My guess is that there is a way to make that particular sound stop, KrayzieFox. Im pretty sure it doesnt have to do with battery except for it is powered by it. It is a security feature and many cars have them at the start of the car. Im not sure exact purpose of it but im positive theres a way to turn it off. One day when you have plenty of time just disassemble your bashboard and look from where that sound might be coming from.... And if you find it you can disconnect it. Then you can tell all of us how to do it..... Or just get used to that annoying sound...

My '02 P5 (mine is an early '02)does not do this. Nor do any of the lights on the dash fade out. They all quietly blip out as it goes through its self-test at startup.

There is a plug under the driver side chair(for sitbelt contection), which is close to the place u adjust the sit moving. disconnect it and there will has no sound when u start up the car, except the door open.

I disconnected the seat belt one but it never had a beep, just an annoying dash light. Have you always had the beep with the car?

How about you put your seatbelt on before you turn the key on or deal with it.

Hey you know what, that sounds like a great plan to me. It's too bad it doesn't fix it though. It's not the seatbelt beep that I'm talking about, this little annoyance comes from somethin else.

Well the only other thing I can think of is some kind of correspondence with the CEL. My CEL has been on ever since I got the car due improper EGR flow, so maybe it beeps on startup to gain your attention, unless ALL 03 models do this. I dunno, my car's kinda dumb like that...

Sounds like a combination of the ECU"s, seat belt, and air bag self test modes. Mine does it all the time and has been like this since I got the car. My CEL goes out after the five beeps though. Seeing as your isn't I would go to a shop and hook it up to a scanner to find out whats causing it. My guess is that it could be the altinator not charging properly.

Have you tried asking the dealer?

What I do know: the speaker that beeps is actually wired to the instrument cluster, where many different wires collect for many different reasons. I am thinking there is some electrical problem that is kicking it off. If it is actually an error code of some sort, the dealership should be able to help you. If it is a problem, they should be able to help you. It shouldn't take long for them to figure it out.
