It is the airbag self test...You will notice the beeping stops exactyl the same time the airbag light goes off

Yet again Mac, you're right. I haven't checked the forum in a couple days, but I did just notice that last night. I was just about to post that exact same thing, but you beat me to it. So at least now I know it's normal, right? Now as far as disabling that annoying *** beep goes ... is it possible?

I'm reviving this thread out of slight curiousity towards what the little white plug underneath the driver's seat does. I tried unplugging this to see if it would make the airbag self test beeping go away, and it sure did!!!

Now that I got that little nuisance taken care of, I'm just curious if I shut off anything else by unplugging that little sensor? This isn't by any way going to disable my air bag or anything right? So ... does anyone know what that thing is actually for..?

That is your butt-sensor. It is used to trigger the 'seatbelt' light. I know the passenger one also sends a signal whether the airbag should deploy or not. I think the mfg 'assumes' the drivers side airbag is needed (unguided car?).

*Why don't *you want to know the airbag system is functional? That is what the self test does. In light of that - maybe the beeping isn't so bad after all...

I actually feel a sense of satisfaction when I put my key in and the car responds with the beeps during self-test, letting me know that she's "armed and ready to go!" I wouldn't trust unplugging anything that might disable the airbag from deploying, so I just deal with it. And besides, anyone else here ever drive a mid 80's Nissan Maxima? "A door is ajar... A door is ajar... A door is ajar... A door is a---"
