Another question for the Protege gurus'

I'm wondering where this fellow found his headlights or if they're custom made or what.

They seem to have a black housing in them. If anyone can point in the direction of these headlights or explain how they were made I'd be most greatful.

Thanks alot.

Looks to me like those headlights were just simply painted black. You take them off, stick them in the oven so you can separate them, paint them whatever color you want (preferably black) and reseal them by sticking them in the oven again. Use this How-To if you wanna do it.

Be aware that your night time visibility may decrease a slight bit due to the fact that your headlights are now black and not as reflective as before.

EDIT: Now that I look at it again I guess it does appear like those are different headlights. Maybe he got them off eBay? I see a lot of different headlights on there all the time. Like these for example ... I think those are the ones on his car too.

That's a 2nd gen. Looks like some kinda Altezzas with eyelid on 'em to me, but I'm no expert on 1st and 2nd gens.

EDIT: yep. it's a set of these with eyelids.

Nope. The corners are actually the diamond-clear or euro clear. the one's you refer to (natey) are like the stock corners in build and design but only like a colorless app and not an amber one.

But still, I thank you natey for finding that link for the headlights. I've been looking for a headlight upgrade to match my corners and now i know it exists for my pro!!!

Technichally it's a 3rd gen, just a 99-00, before the front end was redone. But yeah, the headlights do look pretty nice. And they ofcourse have the eyelids.

Whatever the case, eBay headlights are never the way to upgrade. I'll bet the beam pattern's all out of whack.

I don't suppose you know where I could purchase them somewhere besides Ebay?

Also...I just ordered a set of ES brake rotors...I heard they will fit on my car and they're 1 inch bigger...is all this true?

After seeing that, upon further reading of the auction, they state:

VEHICLE CONDITION MAY CAUSE IMPERFECT OR IMPROPER FITMENT.

maybe that's what you're talking about? I know on the OEM headlight there is a screw that you use to adjust your headlight, of course, but that's for the stock assembly...

I just meant that eBay lights are cheap, and won't be any more bright than your stockies. The beam pattern is not as precise as Mazda's.

If you want to upgrade your lights, check around this place. I put a set of Hella H4's in my FC3S and it made a huge difference.

Thanks alot.

He either painted them his self or bought them from a company online that sells the headlamps and corners that way. I know a place called www.makotoautotrends.com sells both the headlamp and corner lamp with black housing for us Proteges. You might be lucky to find them on Ebay.....
