Audio system question for MP5.
HI...A question on our 2002 MP5 speaker system.
What are the size of the front and rear speakers in our car?
I would like to replace the stock speakers for higher quality ones but I dont want to struggle changing or replaceing any of the major parts.
Is this a easy project for me to do myself?
Does anyone recommend a special tool so I won't scratch or harm the door panel to get to the speaker?
Where do I get that tool if theres any?
What do I do to help bring down the vibration sound from the door panels? Any recommended items?
What should I be carefull with or put serious attention to when changing the stock speakers to better ones?
Thank you for any help.

i don't know what size the speakers are but the door panels are very easy to remove. 3-4 screws, then you pull out on it around the perimeter and lift it out. i had to replace my driver's side mirror awhile back, the whole job including r&r'ing the door panel took me 20 minutes and i was not in a hurry.

Whoa! They are not 6x9..The two front doors are 5x7 and some 6x9's will fit. The rear doors are 5 1/4 and I hear that with modification a 6 1/2 will fit. The 2002 model P5 does not have the tweeters in the upper doors.
The Door panels need to be removed, it is quite easy, and requires screwdrivers, and thats it. If you are very new to the whole process, I recommend Crutchfield.com they will hook you up with everything you need, including directions.

A 5"x7" will work, but the optimum speaker size is a 6"x8". That is why you may have been confused just a tad, and though that you may have seen a 6"x9". Only a few companies make a 6"x8", since it is only used in Ford Motor Company vehicles (Explorer, Taurus, 626, Mazda6, and Protege). 2 companies that I know that make them are Kenwood and Pioneer. In fact Mazda sells the front 6"x8" Kenwoods that appear in the MP3 and Mazdaspeed. But, you can find higher quality speaker models for cheaper. I personally have had good luck with the Pioneer's. I have had them in our Tribute (sold for a PR5) and in my last Protege (a 2000)

Rather than the Mazda dealer, just get Kenwood 6x8's from Best-Buy, etc. They bolt right in, and they improve the stock stereo 1000%. The stock speakers are a sure weak point in the audio system. The sedans have 6x9's on the rear deck, the P5 has 5 1/4's in the rear door.
