In Vietnam and a few other countries, the Protege and P5 are sold as a Ford Laser. Different front fascia and no roof rack. In Africa the car is sold as the Mazda Etude, as the above post mentions. Also of note - in Africa the old style 323 and 323 wagons are still being sold, early 90s styling and all!
You are partially correct about the Laser, but not quite.
Here they sell both, Ford has the Laser wich is basically a Protege made by ford, the interior is the same as the Protege but the exterior front and rear look different, they also share the same engines.
The protege (called Allegro here) is sold by mazda, both as a sedan and as a hatchback, looks just like the US protege (The front bumper is a litle different) and it comes with 1.3l , 1.6l and 1.8l (only with an auto tranny) engines.
They also sell the old 90s style 323s, but they're mostly used as Taxi vehicles.

Wow! Lemme get this straight:
-protege 5
-sport 20
-familia
-astinaNU/SP20
-323/F
-etude
-ford laser (isn't that a plymouth probe?)
-allegro
Now I know what kind of car to rent when I travel!

Thumbs up aussie sp20

in australia it is not called the austinaNU.

We have the Austina SP20 (hatch) and the Protege SP20 (sedan).

Ford also sells the equivalent of the Austina SP20 called the Laser SR2. You can also get the Laser SR (1.8L with all other SR2 parts, ie bodykit etc.) but they look massively ugly and miss out on little finishing touches like the aluminium kick panels on the panel under the door, and the button to change from recirculated to fresh air is a slide switch (which is cheap).

Also I believe we get different standard parts than the Us models.
I read in another thread that US P5 does not have 6 stack CD standard or ABS. Australian model has all of this and 2 airbags, but no cruise control standard.

LOL! I agree, we don't need no stinkin' badges. I'm gettin' rid of mine. Anyway, here in Trinidad, they're called 323. They were called 323F but not anymore. You can also see them with the FAMILIA badge but those are the ones imported from Japan. We also have the Sport20 here too, but I haven't seen any on the road yet. The Sport20's are also imported from Japan. The local dealers here would never bring them so whoever wants them would import them from Japan.
