recently my battery light has been coming on once in a while, and thought I would go get it checked out today, lo and behold it is the battery that needs to be replaced, good thing it wasnt the alternator.

anyway i buy the battery, and it still occasionally comes on, i have heard there is a battery issue with 99' proteges, have any of you had any experiences?

update: i think the alternator is the problem here, as if i dip below 2500RPMs the battery light will go on, but if i exceed 2800RPMs it will go off. autozone says that the alternator is OK but thats only idling with ac on and high beams on.

 

I'd agree that it's the alternator. I'd take it to another autozone or similar store to get a second (or even third, if necessary) opinion.

 

i think it really is the alternator, i took a look under the hood today, is it a PITA (pain in the ***) to replace it myself?

 

You just have to jack the car up and go from the bottom, I've taken out much harder altenators before.
