An interesting solution.

Hit a pothole while running 50 series tires and bend two relatively inexpensive 16 inch rims.

Replace with 40 series tires (or maybe 35?) this time on much more expensive 18 inch rims, and try the exercise all over again

I must be missing the obvious here . . . .

That is wierd dude...

I was just looking at some wheels and thought the 5 zigens looked awesome. Personally I would have gone with 17's. they are a little lighter and now you will really have to be careful, but those wheels in 18's will look awesome dude

Yeah....you are missing the obvious...1st off, it wasn't your normal "POTHOLE" it was HUGE(about a foot deep), I had 5 people in my car, was going 40. With rims and lowered, noway will I be rolling with more than 2 or 3 people. 2nd Let's go buy another two stock rims so I can look like every other P5 out there on the road, or spend a bit more money and have my car holding the road like it's on rails, plus looking much better, much slower, but much better....

Ha...and I thought this was a site for enthusiasts...we should make this site like the Hybrid forum, where to get a password, you have to actually know what you are talking about. Sorry "DON"!

Insallshield: I was going to get 17", but my friend is giving them to me for such a good price that I decided to just get 18's. I don't care about weight, the P5 is already slow as **** anyway, might as well have a nice looking and handling commuter car.

We'd miss your participation then.

Thinking that adding 5 or 6 pounds per corner for your shocks and springs to deal with will make your car "handle like it's on rails" is pure delusion - If you like the looks of heavier tires/wheels then go for them, but don't try to tell us it's for handling reasons - Few enthusiasts are that dumb.

One of my other cars is a Miata, with a 14 inch 27 pound combination on it - When you get your "rails" warmed up, just let me know.

Ok Don,

Enough is enough, you make some very good points. However, it has been my experience that a larger contact patch and smaller sidewalls hold the road much better, once again, that has been my past experience. I am not planning on Auto Xing, or racing my car, but when I do perform some spirited driving, I do enjoy the grip of the wider contact patch. And as far as my shocks and springs are concerned, the stock will be tossed with the stock rims, and I ordered the MP3 struts with H&R Springs. I dunno, your points are good if I actually gave two ***** about my car's ability on a track, or in competition, but since it is my daily driver, and it is slow as **** already, I could care less about weight and etc...personally, with this car I am more concerned about styling than dumping endless amounts of money into performance mods, made that mistake on my last car and got nothing out of it but empty wallet.

Thanks for your opinion though, sorry for trying to bash you before, just felt you were being a smart *** about my situation, which was senseless, I wasn't asking for anyone's opinion, just making a statement about the stock rims...

Don......shouldn't you change your name to Donna? What kind of guy brags about driving a Miata? Or bothers to hook up a Miata? It's a girly car...imo anyway.

Sure there is some tuning potential, but your money might have been better spent wallpapering your powder room or buying a new dress....or how about a Prada purse

I think you are taking Double D's statement a little too literally. He bent his rims, wanted to get rid of the stock look and got some 18's. Would I go with 18's.....not unless I had a M3 or Benz...but that's just me. Like he said....the car is not going anywhere fast anyway...so he's hooking it up for looks. He doesn't auto-x it or drag it....so why does it matter if he adds weight. Guess we'll see you and your Miata at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix

Manly car.......a Hummer that runs on jet fuel actually.

It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Miata's suck. It's too little and cute for me.

He was bashing Double D, so I bashed him.

Identity...I take it you're a Miata owner. Maybe you and Donna can go purse shopping together.

I wasn't bashing Double D, I was sticking up for him. I was bashing Donna.

I know Miatas can be fast, so can Festiva's. You can make any car fast with a decent amount of money...doesn't make it any cooler.

I have respect for anyone who hooks up their car....even if they suck at doing it.

"An interesting solution. Hit a pothole while running 50 series tires and bend two relatively inexpensive 16 inch rims. Replace with 40 series tires (or maybe 35?) this time on much more expensive 18 inch rims, and try the exercise all over again I must be missing the obvious here . . . . "

Yes, he is missing the point. DD wanted bigger rims. Yeah, potholes are gonna do even more damage now...just have to be more careful. DD was just sharing his excitement about getting new wheels....plain and simple...and Donna felt the need to pick on him. So Donna gets bashed.

"The handle like its on rails" comment may be an exaggeration, but Donna replied with "Thinking that adding 5 or 6 pounds per corner for your shocks and springs to deal with...." Does it really matter. Technically, yes. You can spit out all the technical crap you want...spring rates and all....but when it comes down to it...for a daily driven MP5 Wagon...it really doesn't matter. A properly tuned car is always gonna run better than something thrown together for the sake of achieving better aesthetic appeal....but DD knows that.

It all comes down to the fact DD just wanted to share his excitement of getting new rims...and Donna had to be an *** about it.

I'm just messin with you guys....lighten up.

MP5 Type M (bmw) R (acura) VR6 (vw)....it's gonna be a super hybrid. You'll see soon enough.

Lmao

Haha....SuperStud...Thanks for stickin up for me, you are hilarious, I almost pissed my pants reading your comments...and I agree...Donna did start bashing me for no aparent reason....

I don't recall my post asking for advice or opinions in any way shape or form, just explained my situation...maybe I should get Donna's phone number so I can ask for advice in every aspect of my life...you know....Interior design Tips, Fashion Tips, not to mention tips on how to maintain my budget. It seems he friggin knows it all....

As far as Identity X, I believe that Super Stud was not directing any comments to me directly, but to you and Donna....see, all I did was defend myself against the Great Mr. Know it all....who started bashing me for who knows what reason? Guess he thinks I am some ricer that don't know anything about cars..hehe...sorry to give the wrong impression...my last car I had went from 14" rims to 17" rims, and noticed a dramatic difference in handling, of course, these differences were not performed at Laguna Seca nor Suzuka which I am sure he tests hisr "Miata" at every weekend, but then again, I could be wrong...

And as far as the MP5 MR VR6m He has a MP5 with a rear mounted VR6 motor in it using an MR2 mount kit....duh!

I think people on this forum need to read, comprehend what is written, and then respond to it. The only person that seemed to have a ligitamate response was 99-00 Protege...thanks for the info.

Everyone else can kiss my natural white ***! Except Super Stud, cause with a name like that he just might....JK
