Question Black Headlights

Now from what I have heard from local dealers there will be no black headlights on the North American bound MP5's.(Canadian only) The protege's will recieve the black treatment. They have 5 2003 MP5's in stock and all have the chrome headlights. Any Canadians willing to trade a set of black headlights for the chrome?????????

Errr... Did Canada get kicked out of North America when I wasn't paying attention? Heh, just kidding bro

I think the black headlights look hot as *****... Not too many people may be willing to trade, but good luck!

I don't think you can paint that part. Aren't these sealed units, so you can't access the chrome part or you will break the seal ? Then you get fogging in the lens. So for trading, I guess it will be the whole light unit. Just wondering.

You're correct that they are sealed units and its really hard to access the chrome part, but I believe that it's achievable. If it's anything like the other headlamps these days, you remove your bumper, take out the headlight assembly, and melt the silicone around it to break the seal. You paint it and whatever custom stuff you like and then put it back together with more silicone and some pressure.

correct me if it's not possible. i dont want anybody damaging their headlights trying it out. i just know this because i've done it to about 7 pairs of headlamps and they've all worked...but they're mostly honda/acura and toyota.

why dont you see if anyone witha mp3 wants to trade? or get some from the dealership and then sell your chrome ones on ebay for the amount you bought the black housing ones for?

Hope that helps...
Oh great, I did not need to hear that. I actually have some of that very thing. I use it for a bunch of other stuff.

i personally like the chrome on the P5's much better than the black that i have on my ES. i'd gladly trade someone if i knew the fit was going to be easy. don't you have to change harness or something inside the car cuz' the P5's lights are different right?

Wink Sorry for the miss type

Yes I should have said U.S. Models instead of North American models. AS for taking the lights apart and painting them I might try that as a last resort and for buying them ? I dont think I am going to shell out $300 apeice at the dealer just because they are black. (if they were HID projectors I would). I have been thinking of changing over to the Protege (h4) lights anyone with some input? (too much security at the dealer )Or if I get really creative I was thinking about R34 Skyline headlights Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................

If you like chrome.. I got the headlights from my 2002 LX which are chrome. If you want to trade, Id be interested. They are the same model not dual projector like the P5s. I would assume they are the same harness.

Let me know.
