Talking Bought a NEW 03 Protege LX!

Well Guys I took the plunge and bought a protege, I allways wanted a Brand NEW Protege I like the car so far. Just got it 2 days ago. I do have this burning SMELL coming from the car it seems to come from the back. THe dealer said its the undercoat burning but I am not sure I have 100 miles on the car and its still has a burning smell coming is this NORMAL? Other then the smell car runs Fine no compalins , other then I wish it had more Horse power but oh well It gets me from College to Wrk n home thats all I need for now. But I think I got a great deal what you guys think ? Got its for $13831 which includes 6% jersey Tax. Its an LX includes side air bags, curise control power everthing , auto. So I am really worried for the burning smell thoe.. let me know what everboy's input is on that.

THX

Sorry man, been busy with the new year. Congrats, welcome, enjoy!!

The burning smell is normal. It should go away in a few hundred miles.

Welcome to the club!!

Welcome!
I don't know if I could categorize my experience as a "burning smell," but I had an odor in the early miles and just figured it was the underbody coating. I have 4500 miles on my P5 and the smell is gone.

Warranty info?

I was wondering about adding a PC in the trunk of the car and running wires to the front under the carpet or something and adding a LCD for the monitor in the front would any of this void the warranty?

Welcome!

About the LCD monitor if it is a flip-up one that replaces the stock radio then it won't void your warranty. Now the PC in the trunk is a different story. The warranty usually gets voided due to performance mods such as NO2 or turbokit. Of course other things can void your warranty as well your best bet is if something does go wrong w/ something you installed then put your car back to stock so the dealer won't know or he will not fix the problem.

basically.... If you do somethign to your car and you have a problem later, and want to get it fixed under warranty, they have to prove that your mod caused or affected the problem to void your warranty.

Ya if I add the PC and alternator goes bad then I am screwed rite? Thats what your trying to say? Well can I add a more POWERfull alternator by the dealership before I add the pc? Plus what gas do u guys put in your brand new Proteges? Regular? I mean I could put one step up but does it really help? I was thinkin to do my first oil change at 1k miles and add Mobile 1 oil the syntheic stuff is that ok @ 1k?

Thx for all the info

yeah if the PC caused the alternator to malfunction and the dealership finds out about it then your screwed. If I were you I would see if you could get a more powerful alternator. I put premium 93 octane in mine just b/c I have a couple of mods done to it : HKS axle back exhaust, Injen CAI, and Unorthodox racing underdrive crank pulley so the higher octane makes my mods perform better. But if your car is stock then you can put in regular it should say in the mazda manual that you got what gas to put in I think it's regular 87 octane. I took my P5 to the dealership for the oil change since it was free. I'am not sure of the Mobile 1 oil syntheic stuff though the car might be too new but don't quote me on this.

with the mods you did subghetto, higher octane gas will get you nothing, except maybe a lighter wallet.....only way you benefit from higher octane is if you get high compression pistons, deck the head maybe, or go forced induction

well the best for your baby is 87 octane...91 or 93 will not burn as clean and leave behind deposits, and also it doesnt ignite at the same temperature so you actually lose power

look at the manual..recommended octane gas for our car is 87 octane....higher octane gas is not necessarily better or cleaner burning...it simply ignites at a higher temperature and pressure...since our cars do not create these conditions you end up with unburned fuel, thus you will get carbon buildup and reduced performance.....removing the factory radio WILL void any warranty on the radio...thats just common sense
