Talking Change of Life (New P5 Owner!)

Good morning!

I thought I'd introduce myself. HI! I'm Brian, and I am an newly addicted MP5 owner! I just bought the car a few days ago after many weeks of reviewing the new car purchase! It's a 2002.5, silver, with the A/T sport shift. I really like it!

I have been around in the import scene since 1995. In addition I had owned a speed shop in Miami for 2 years and was mail order out of Chicago.

The cars I have owned in the past (most recent first) are:

2001 Acura Integra Type-R (Heavily Modified)
1999 Acura Integra GS-R Sedan (Heavily Modified)
1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (got rid of after 4 months)
1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe (Heavily Modified)
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX (Heavily Modified)

In addition, our family cars (most recent first) are:

2000 Mazda MPV (zoom zoom)
1999 Acura TL
1995 VW Golf

As you can see above, I pretty much get a car every two years for no reason at all other than I mod the heck out of it and either want to save money or I get board with the car. Foremost, two weeks ago I just let go of my 2001 Type-R. I really miss it, though I don't miss the inconvienance of where I can drive it, will it get stolen, and can I put my kids in it. What I do miss is the raw power, the super handling, etc.

I bought the MP5 with A/T so that I don't really modify the car (err the engine, but I wish there was about 50HP more though!). Coming from a kick *** Type-R to this is pretty drastic. However, as all of you know, the MP5 suspension is great, BMW quality, etc.

I already did the Fog Light MOD and put in Sylvania Super Blue headlight bulbs in for the brights. I am having an issue finding H7 bulbs though for the regular driving lights. I wouldn't mind replacing the orange parking lights with clear ones (anyone have a good quality product out there?), and I definitely need a "little" more bass than what came with the car. I'm going to hold off on totally replacing the head unit with amps, etc. such as on my R. I'll work through these issues, as they are minor and don't cost much. Oh yeah, the Mazda wiring and locations are sooooo much nicer to deal with than any car I have owned in the past!

I apologize to all due to the large post but thought I'd share who I am with you guys and I do have quite a bit of Import knowledge.

Cheers!

- Brian

Oy!

welcome, and congrats on getting the P5!!!

But talk about a major change! you traded in a ITR for a P5?!?!? You sure are determined not to mod the hell out of the P5!

I would love to have an ITR to drive around, but the theft rate of these cars (and consequently the insurance rate) are through the roof. Much safer with a Protege since the thiefs are too stupid to realize what a nice car it is!

again, welcome!!!!

Actually, I did not trade the car in. I sold it to a private buyer whom just sold his Acura GS-R turbo a few weeks before he bought my Type-R. I got good money on it, didn't lose anything at all (no kidding). It's just as drastic from going to my 500HP Eclipse GSX to a 97 coupe. Since I'm a consultant, I wanted a car where I could "theoretically" haul stuff, including going to Home Depot besides using our Minivan where you gotta move this and move that to put crap in it. Also, I have three little girls, so the difference in money is going to them.

I got rid of the Grand Prix GTP NOT because it wasn't a good car, but it wasn't an import like I was used to (it was too damn big) and a stock Type-R whips it by 2 car lengths. I know, it happened, same day car was gone! Though it might have been a stupid move, I lost around $4K on that deal.

Welcome! You will LOVE your P5. I agree with you about the quality issues with domestics. I traded in a Lincoln LS8 & $5000 to get my P5. Lincoln was a well balanced and quick car but the A/T took all the fun out of it and talk about rattles!!! I brought it into the dealership for one and two days later I get my car back (dirty) and scratched to holy heck! When I called the Lincoln reps, they said it was a problem between me and the dealership. That's when I shoved it up there butts and divorced my wife (car was her idea)!
I've had my P5 in for two oil changes now and tell you what, service has been excellent!!
