changing battery
Putting concern aside that I seem a silly female....I could SWEAR that I have read/heard that when you change a battery, or disconnect one, that when you reconnect it you are supposed to let the car idle a certain period to let the computers reset or something. Is that true?
Any advice on a good battery now that I'm not in Arizona but in cold Vermont and have a dead battery on my hands?
thanks
paula

Actually it's heat that kills batteries..ANd as for the ECU/Battery issue...If the battery is unhooked for a certain period of time, any stored codes or "learning" it has done is erased. It is essential to do this when installing new parts like CAI's,cams, pistons, exhaust, etc, that way the ecu wont perform based on old values, rather it will learn new ones

not sure i really understand ecu...
are you saying if I have the battery removed for a few hours then that can mess things up? how do you rectify it ?
exactly what is it that is "essential to do"?
thanks

Yeah, ditto.
Welcome to the forum!
The ECU will 're-learn' your engine's specific parameters. One thing. I would let it 'warm up' and then drive the first time, keeping the a/c , defrost, etc. OFF, and run it kinda' hard. When i do this the car runs better (IMHO). When i last reset the ECU i had the a/c on as it 're-learned' and it didn;t seem quite as peppy...
i dunno. It couldn't hurt and it *might* help....

Be advised Paula, new batterys are quite depleted so you will have to RESET THE ECU Twice,
when you start your car for the first time, your car (your charging system) will be focusing on charging the battery, so this may play havoc with proper learning values. After a day or so, Reset your battery again. and do what *Da P-Funk to ya
then you should be fine
