Have 9100 kms and the CE light came on. This happen to anyone else?? Is this just a warning to take it in for the 10k maintenance or something else?

I went for a drive on my lunch hour to see if i noticed anything diff with the engine and when i first turned on the engine the CE light still came on, but after a few errand stops, it didn't come on anymore.
Would the code still be stored in the computer even though the light went off? I think i'm still gonna call mazda since I have some other things to ask them at the same time.

You know, after reading your post, it sounds kind of familiar. My ce light would come on initially, and then would go off after running a bit, or turning it off after a short while. I think the mech said it gives you a ce light because the O2 sensor sees the ton of unburnt crap coming out the back end.

The ce light may go off but a code will be stored, also if your car runs o.k but the light is on that still means there is a sensor some where that is failed. you should have it checked out. there update pcm programming for some protege's that will fix some check engine light problems, they just need to flash your pcm it takes about 30 -45 min

For those of you in the NJ area, I have been using an OBDII scan tool for my laptop to turn off CEL's in my Cougar. I havent checked yet, but I am pretty sure the diagnostic port in the Cougar is the same as in the P5... so, if im correct, any of you who wish to see EXACTLY whats goin on with ur car and y u have a CEL is free to use it.... just lemme know

I know this is going to sound strange. I also have an S-10 Blazer (totally different car I know), and for awhile my CE light kept coming on. So I took it in, they told me that my gas cap wasn't sealing good enough. I was like what that is ridiculous. It's true, even says it in the new manuals. There is some pressure sensor or something, I can't exactly remember. To make a long story short, check your gas cap.

It has gone off and hasn't come back so hopefully it was just a fluke occurence. The code is still stored so next time i'm there i'll get them to check the computer.
