Chirping from engine

Hi,

I noticed on my 2002 P5 that my car is making an annoying chirping sound. The sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine, near the firewall.

It seems to be coming from quite low, since when I look from underneath, near the wheel/passenger door, I can hear it quite well.

Also, if I give gas, the sound does not disappear or change speed. I also turned off the fan & A/C and that made no difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks

M,

I have the same problem.
No help from the dealer.
Did you get the problem solved?

Start with checking the tension on the belts.

I don't know if we have the same problem. Mine sounds like crickets when I cruise above 40mph. It disappears when I open the throttle though. It goes away when I put the transmission in neutral. So I suspect it's the tranny, probably the rubber seals around the transmission vibrating?
