The choke?

sorry to revive a dead thread, i have a similar problem. it started occuring in the last year or so, specifically in the cold weather. in the mornings when i start the car, the gas pedal is hard to push down. if i give it enough force the pedal will make a "click" noise that comes from the pedal as far as i can tell.
i'm on a hill, so if i have my left foot on the clutch and right foot on the gas, i start going backwards until i give the gas enough force. it feels like there is something holding the pedal up until i push it down enough to release the tension. after that its smooth sailing the rest of the way. could this be related?

Your problem sounds more like a strictly mechanical one. Check to make sure your accelerator cable isn't kinked, look at the pulley (the piece the cable attaches to that actually moves the throttle plate) to make sure the cable is on it properly and it isn't damaged, look at the stop screw and make sure it isn't hanging something up (or it could have backed out). You might need someone to help you do this.
