Looks like a tough job. Did somebody help you? I dont think you can do this on your own, I would not be able to. I also have a silver 2001 protege, and I think this would make it look really good.

Clear Turn Signal Mod: 2001 Mazda Protege

Take your headlight assembly completely out of the car.

Around there edge of the front clear lense there will be a bead of adhesive. Using a heat gun, melt away the adhesive, and pry away the lense. Please be careful.

Once you have the lense off, the amber reflector should be able to be heated slightly and popped out.

Clean the edges of the headlight assembly and the lense, remove any extra adhesive and clean them both with alcohol, to remove any fingerprints. They must be spotless.

Using Silicone Auto/Boat adhesive, bond the lense back to the headlight assembly and clamp them together.

Let dry for 24 hours.

I'll have to try that...

Does anyone know how much the headlights cost on the 2001 Protege?? I'd like to try it on a set other than what is in my car and make sure I get it right.

Just a thought...

Mine were $250 a peice Canadian.

[EDIT] I should say that is what they would have costed. The price was on the printout from Mazda when the insurance company payed for the accident I was involved in[/EDIT]

What?? Of course I have Protege headlights on my car...It's a Protege...

But, I'm reluctant to start pulling my headlights and then royally jack it up...I'd rather buy them and try it out. If I get it spot on the first time, great. But if I screw up, I'm not missing headlights in my car when I need to go get them...I'd rather try it out on beat ones from a junkyard. But, I'm not sure if they will be easy to find or not.

If they are expensive new, then it might not be worth attempting right now.

They will be very hard to find at a junk yard.........

The cost is 202$ a piece for the chrome ones, and 275$ a piece for the other ones, I think the ones that come on the ES model, the darker looking ones.

Why don't you just get Protege5 headlights?

They're 400 a piece. Not too mention you'd also need a new wiring harness from the P5 as well, as it is dual headlamp.

protege5 headlight assemblies cost $215.00 per side as I had mine changed out already due to an accident.

In Canada they're not 215 each. I wish .
