Clutch & flywheel replaced under warranty!
Just wanted to let y'all know - I got a local dealer to replace the clutch and flywheel on my 2003 P5 under warranty. Unlike the first dealer I took it to, they didn't require that it exhibited the clutch chatter first. They just took our word for it. Also, they didn't give me any crap about TSB 3848 only covering up through 2002 models. We just gave the service manager the VIN over the phone, he looked it up and said I'll order the parts, let's see you next week.
They showed me the old flywheel - it definately had hot spots.
At first the clutch takeup was RIGHT off the floor, which had me worried, so I talked to the mechanic who did the work. He said it should slowly start to feel more normal, but if I had any problems, call or bring it back. After a few high rpm launches and purposefully slipping the clutch, the takeup point is starting to move out.
Cool. Free clutch. And a service department that's not totally clueless.
I'd never buy a new Mazda from them though... they had a $7000 dealer markup on a Mazdaspeed 6! Yikes.

You know...I don't remember ever receiving any thing about clutch/flywheel issues. I'm guessing they fixed it when they replaced the engine??? I'm not showing any warranty work as being outstanding.

I think that's because it was a TSB (clutch chatter at cold temperatures) and not a recall. In other words, you have to ask for it to be done. If you have your paperwork from the engine replacement you should be able to tell if they replaced the flywheel and/or clutch. The updated flywheel part number is FS01-11-500A.
