I live in Toronto and my 2003 P5 has been very slow to catch on cold start-ups. Sounds like it won't start for a minute, then does. Also it is very loud when it is cold and you drive away. This is not in north pole weather either, it was only about -10 celcius or so.

I have some trouble with my MP5 catching in the cold too. Luckly it's always started for me. I lent my car out for a weeks when I was in South Africa and my brother says there was a day he couldn't even turn it over. And my sister tried too and still nothing. But it worked again the next morning when they tried. They say it wasn't even under freezing. So far I haven't experienced this. I'll post if I get this problem.

If I was in T.O. it would probably feel like South Africa, there are simalarities however like the drifting of sand, I mean snow. It's only getting colder now and I'll let you guys know when I plug her in. So far she hasn't let me down, I got my 14 inch Steel rims and my winter tires should be in tomorrow, I went with Toyo Observe G0-2 plus. If you guys want a kick-*** tire you should give them a try. I got 5 years of winter driving out of my last set and they're still going.

I haven't noticed any problems in the winter. When the car is cold it is a little slower but so was my last car. It could be because I park in a heated garage that I don't notice any difference but sometimes when my car is parked at a friends house for 4-5 hours it still starts up fine.
The only problem I have with the squirters is in the summer. When your sunroof is open the backseat passengers get a shower.

My car is perfect int he winter....
feels like its got more power...(as stated by some other individuals earlier)..its probably cause of the colder air.

and the older 3rd gens are not...hmmm???

I don't think in those first 30 secs...it would get as hot as it would get if you ran your car to top speed from a stop...like what i did....redline every gear.....full throttle....was in the upper 5000 Rpms - redline most of the time...
plus it takes me about 3 - 4 minutes to get down to a clean idle 750RPM idle. not only 30 secs... dunno....maybe the dealer was wrong....but don't take my word....the dealer probably knows more....

Well, the 30 seconds thing I heard about from the service centre guy at a Mazda Dealer... but it makes sense. I mean the rad cools down the engine, right? So as long as it's doing it's job, and it doesn't overheat, then the engine shouldn't be going over a certain temp (at least that is my common sense understanding, considering I know nothing about under the hood of a car). So, in the first 30 seconds, the engine can easily reach that temp. Of course the hood of your car doesn't feel hot, cause it takes more time for the heat to escape and transfer to other services... Again, I don't know... but that bit I said makes sense to me. Then again, what do I really know?
