BOOSTD, seriously, all you need is a turbo back exhaust, a manual boost controlelr, a cold air intake, and definately fuel management if you can afford it. This new ECU flash makes the car run smoother, but they advanced the timing to do it. A fuel management system is highly reccomended for higher boost. Word around the forums is this will only take about 9-10PSI before it starts to knock.
A FMIC won't do much in the 1/4 mile, but it does add a little HP. Like I said earlier, most people are having trouble keeping their 60ft. times low. If you can get them to 2.0-2.2, you should be able to break 13's.
JoeP from our forum ran a 14.2 with about $600-$700 worth of mods. Others have been able to match thta, but not sure if they've dipped into the 13's yet. With the colder weather coming, it should be no problem.
Here are some links to check out parts for the MSP:
Manual Boost Controller
Spool Innovative Turbo Systems
Apex Motorsports downpipe
ION Performance
You should come over and check out our site sometime...There is tons of info for you, and tons of people willing to convince you to get this car I'm on that forum under the same name.

1) Have a question? Do a SEARCH!!!
There are numerous pathways one can take to achieve power gains. Whatever approach you desire is a personal decision based upon monetary constraints, time and technical feasibility. The power of researching the topic is to form an individual opinion that's best for you and your situation.
2) Ask a broad, open-ended question that has no specific direction, and what do you expect - tea and crumpets? Not to mention the title of this thread...
3) To answer your original question: "yes". I hope that makes you feel better.

Is that all 500 hp, The Lambo that I take my trash out with has 1200 hp.
Like I have said before, you can be anyone or have anything on the internet. SHOW us what you have and get respect. BUT you came on here like someone who had just discovered Mazda today. Now you say that you are the most devoted person on this Forum. IF you are that then YOU should know and YOU should be telling us what is available not asking.
But that's just my 50 cent.
Peace

well I think you should go with the MSP..someone here said if you want basically the best FWD driver to car interphace on the planet, then buy this car...it isnt a drag car, however i do think with the lsd and bigger axles this gearbox can withstand a bit more than 250 lb ft of torque(everybody on here keeps saying hp...torque kills trannies, not hp)...I suspect with the right mods you could get what you want with it...However for now expect most of those mods to be custom...not simple bolt-on ****....people on this board need to calm down and get off their damn soap box....he asked for opinions and so far almost all i have seen is people trying to turn away a prospective protege buyer...dont do that..especially someone who wants to do mods...the more people like that out there, the more parts we are going to get...the biggest bitch i hear from people on here(mine too) is not enough aftermarket....its simple supply and demand folks

No **** macdaddy ... what's up with the attitudes? With that kind of BS, no wonder all the good info is over on the other site.
It's obvious that a M3 Convertible is a far superior car to a Protege. But I'm all about Mazda, I've owned RX-7's since I was 16 and have been running rx7club.com since 1996. I WANT to support Mazda. But I don't know anything about tuning Protege's. I've always liked the car, love the aggressive look and have driven a MP3 hard and love the way they handle. So the only question is if it's a platform that's really worth taking on or not. How much can the block handle? And from what I gather, the tranny is a bit weak ... is that a myth or truth?
I've had some PM's saying to get a P5 and a turbo kit for it, but I want all the suspension goodies of the Mazdaspeed.
Basically, I think it would be fun to work on the car. There's not much farther I can go with my 7, and I've already got a RX-8 project started, so it's either a Protege or a 6. Or maybe wait for the 3 ... I know there will be more of an aftermarket for it since it's a Duratec.
How about this, anybody in the STL area with a Mazdaspeed with more than 1 or 2 bolt ons want to come out to the next RX-7 meet and let me drive your car? We have one guy with a black 2003, just got his flash and a CAI whose car I drove. But it was raining so I didn't get to have any fun.
I'm rambling now ...
I read the other site, but since I admin this one, I'd rather do this discussion here and hope for the best. I should say, I have intentions to admin this site. Until now I haven't done anything, but that's going to change. Big plans in store. BIG plans

i think the 5 is nuts for a "wagon". very fun.
but yeah, i guess the mazdaspeed would be the better tuned car...off the lot.
sr motorsports has everything i would think about getting for my 5, if i ever decide on modding it.

well in my personal opinion, the block should be ok, but to really get some power the weak point would be connecting rods and wrist pins...see if you can find forged parts...the tranny could be considered weak...but trannies were grenading because the open diff couldnt handle the power...the MSP has an LSD and beefier axles...i expect you could probably push close to 300-350 hp on it if you practice smooth shifts and arent constantly trying redline drops...plus maybe going with a stage 2 clutch, but nothing more harsh...you want it to grab, but not "too" hard....I think you would fall in love with this car and it is worth the investment....figure out how much it would be to buy and upgrade a P5 to the same specs as an MSP...youll spend WAY more than the $19,000 price tag on an MSP...figure $16,000 on the P5..$3000 for the turbo kit, $500 for the mazda LSD, $700 for the MSP springs and struts,$400 for the sway bars,$500 for the Mazdaspeed exhaust, another $500 for the axles, another $1500 for the Racing Harts with tires....what are we up to now?? I count $23100...and you still dont have the same look or a limited edition car like the MSP, which will hold its value better...I think the choice is obvious...buy the MSP
